Smithtown is "known" as a better school district. Both are will regarded.

As a parent in the Smithtown district I would say they are equal. Hauppauge is smaller, while Smithtown might be viewed as having a few more programs. They are both very good. Long-time Smithtown natives (which I am not) seem to feel Smithtown is stronger, but most of the school report card data has the districts as basically the same. I've often felt that Hauppauge is one of those "under the radar" nice areas that is not discussed as often as Smithtown. Good luck in your decision.

Both are good. Raised my kids in Smithtown and worked for the school district. However, if it is an issue, your property taxes will be a little less in Hauppauge because of the industrial complex there.
