That park is beautiful, isn't it? There are a lot of more affluent neighborhoods on the island that don't have that ambiance.
IF anything, that park may give the Fletcher area an edge over the rest of VS. I love that lake.

Actually, VS Central High and middle schools are among the best looking schools I've seen on the island. It's not a detriment at all, it blends in nicely with the character of the area.

Sure, I pass that block on my way to the train station daily. You're very close to the middle school, maybe one block away from directly facing it. That is a very nice area and I usually see people walking their dogs there on my way back from the LIRR at 4 -5 in the morning.

I'm righ tby the HS and JrHS and have no problems there. I work in the city though so I don't see what's going on during the school day but the neighbors say nothign crazy happens because of the school. I guess if you're there around 3 it probably gets busy when the kids get out but looking at the map you posted, the house isn't in the main walking path of the kids so you probably wouldn't be affected much.
That street is nice because if I remember right, there is an entrance to the park in that cul-de-sak so that's another plus.
As for your safety question, I feel it's safe. I've never seen anything happen around there (no grafitti, gangs, fights, etc.). The only problem I have is some streets are in need of a paving but that's the case in a lot of areas.
Also, during the summer there is a park along No. Valley Stream Blvd near the LIRR train station that has a mini amphitheater and there are live concerts there Tuesday nights. Shows the town is still doing things to increase the quality of life for its residents.

I think you are referring to Millbrook.

The Homes are not any nicer, the streets aren't cleaner, it's not any quieter. I worked in Woodmere last year and sometimes I chose to commute by bike through Gibson. School can be code for a lot of things. IMO, other than the north side of Valley Stream being 60% White and Gibson being virtually 100% White, there is no difference, it's not even the nicest part of VS.
And VS is crowded in what way? It really isn't any more crowded than other towns in Western Nassau.

Read it again. I only said it's nice. I didn't compare it to any other part of VS except where I live. I'm not that familiar with the area you are talking about other than passing through it. Yes it looks nice but my in laws lived in Gibson, so I know it better.
You're right it isn't any more crowded than other western Nassau towns. Again, I never said it was. Crowding in general in Nassau is horrible and getting worse.

I go to Central High School. I am loving all the replies on how good this town is, even though I don't like it myself. I'm a city kid and the only place that feels like home to me is Manhattan even tho I lived in V.S all my life. But this town has a nice ambiance. I live in district 30 and think its ok. I love how today my front door was unlocked and kids where walking in and out to talk to my little brothers and my cousins who are over for the week. You see kids riding their bikes and parents walking home from the bus after work. But the neighborhood is still quiet. Parents look out for each others kids and everything.
