Sure, love what you're coming home to... to sleep and go do the grind all over again. With that commute you never have time to enjoy the community you're sacrificing so much for. Or the kids you're supposed to be sacrificing for.

Or conversely, get off the LIRR in 30 minutes and be standing on Jericho Tpke where it feels just as busy as the City you just left.
It is what it is....go to Ronkonkoma in the AM, its packed.
People vote with their feet.
You do make a valid point though.
Telecommuting has changed the game quite a bit too.
Some people can work remote 1-2 days a week etc.

anyone actually live ON the busiest parts of Jericho Turnpike? lol...
2 blocks north or south and you can't even hear traffic, let alone see it.
Anyway, once you get west of the Sagtikos (for the most part), commuting to NYC is a pain. To commute from all the way by Stony Brook area is borderline lunacy IMO. It's a shame the LIRR service sucks out there but it is what it is. Western Suffolk gets the shaft in that regard. Only way I'm living out there is if I'm working somewhere nearby. Life is too short to be spending 4 hours a day crammed next to some fat guy on the LIRR.

Forget hearing traffic, what about the human crush. People...everywhere all the time. Non-stop cars, places are packed it's dirtier...I'm gonna side with Crooks on this if it were RP or VS I'd sit on the train a little more and head to peace and quiet. And the beach, no waves but still.

Listen ...theyre both fine.
Theyre just different.
The problem with NYC now is that you have to travel 90 mins out in any direction to begin to turn it off.
9/11 changed everything.
The Exurbs became the Suburbs and the Suburbs became Queens.
Thats not a bad thing. I envy Nassaus sidewalks, sewers, transportation etc.
I imagine we'll be there shortly too.

within the vast majority of neighborhoods, the "human crush" and traffic is virtually nonexistent. It's only when you venture out onto the main strips that you encounter it, but this goes for pretty much all of LI. You don't have to travel far from Rocky Point to encounter something simlar to Jericho, Hempstead TP, 106/107, etc.
As for "places being packed", I honestly dont' know if supermarkets, Target, or whatever are crowded in Western Suffolk or not. They certainly are in most of Nassau on your average Saturday afternoon. If that's not the case out east, than good for you...but IMO that's not something that would rank very high on my list of grievances.

SIB
Its cool.
Youre just desensitized to it.
Hes not putting the area down....the human crush is real(particularly in western Nassau) and people do move out here (and further) to avoid it.
Peace,

you guys should call the guy who does the traffic on the metro channel and tell him to just skip over the whole western half of suffolk from now on. I mean, since there's no traffic or anything out there, what's the point? lol...
Not sure how you get "desensitezed" to traffic, crowded places, etc. When I encounter these problems, I get annoyed just as much as the next person. I think it's more a case of ya'll hayseeds (j/k) out west overstating the problems we city slickers are forced to deal with in this dangerous urban nightmare we call Nassau.

Yup its just like the Dukes of Hazzard out here.
I assume OP is moving from Queens to RP for QOL.
Moving from Queens to Queens Lite(j/k)wouldnt be much of a change.
FWIW RP isnt really Western Suffolk.
