Default Long Island attractions?

Hi guys,

I am going to visit Long Island on this Wed.
Could anyone tell me which places in Long Island I should visit (the beaches, the parks ...)?.
I have a whole spare day with a car.
The net did not help me much. I just found the place named Montauk. Any further suggestions?
Thank you and have a good evening!

The beach is a good bet, the older coastal towns are good for walking around and dining. Where are you going to be and what are you looking for? Action or something mellow?

hi dman72,

I will stay in Huntington.
I am a kind of nature guy, so the parks and the beaches would be the best choice for me.
Thank you.

Well, downtown Huntington is a good place for bars and eating. Caumsett State Park is all the way up north from there. A good place to stroll and wander.

The North Shore of Long Island is great for visiting old estates and museums. Try Westbury Gardens. It's beautiful.

Rehi dman72,
Caumsett State Park and Westbury Gardens sound interesting. I will try. Thank you so much.
By the way, do you have any idea about Montauk?

My idea is that it is more than an hour drive from Huntington and would not recommend unless you are in for a long drive.

The best attractions on the east end of LI are the Hamptons on the south shore and the wineries on the north shore. Montauk, the town, is a slightly run down beach down, and Montauk point itself is a lighthouse and a beach..there are better options that don't require crazy driving.

Based on google map it takes about 2 hours and 20 min to travel from Huntington to Montauk. I can do it. That isn't a big deal for me.
Any way, I have just one spare day, so I need to choose between visiting Montauk or Caumsett State Park.
Thanks for your information

Okay, you'll spend half the day driving. Be sure to make quick stops in Bridghampton, Southampton, and East Hampton. Be prepared for snobbery, but they are a good place to stroll.
