there you have it? the main thing is that North Babylon was not that far behind and it was still way ahead of Brentwood Wyandanch, and CI, I went to Smithtown and it is a good school district no one can say it is not, however there are problems there also, just a different set no where is Utopia.

Did you look at Newsday August 17, 2008 published 2006-2007 statistics?

It clearly says North Babylon's graduation rate is 85%. No if ands or buts.

Sorry Rachael84, but you are wrong. What I posted are accurate graduation rates from Newsday published Agust 17, 2008.

Anyway, what is your hang-up with North Babylon. You seem to make it a point to go out of your way to slam the the area.

Why is everyone so hung up on these percentages. % graduation, % AP, % on tests, etc? Any district with economically disadvantaged neighborhoods will score a lower percentage on all of these metrics.

If a school has a 75% grauation rate, and that 75% receive an excellent education, are well prepared for college, great extra curriculars, etc. Does this make it a lesser school? Perhaps a school graduating 95% has a mediocre staff and curriculum, but few students who come from a poor background to weigh down the average.

It's a safer bet with a 95% school. You'll have less of a chance for your kid to fall in with a crowd not heading toward college, but parents have more to do with that I think.

Is there a better way to measure a school?

I agree with nbres, Rachel84 obviously has a real problem with North Babylon and goes out of her way to slam it. Don't get me wrong, its not like NB is my favorite area or anything but I grew up there and it's not as bad as Rachel84 and some others say it is. You know, I don't go out there slamming other people's neighborhoods, so I recommend to Rachel84 that she stop belaboring the point. We know what you think, that is enough as far as I am concerned.
