he's being misleading when it isn't that good of an area. There are others on here who agreed and said to stay out of the area. Even if it does have 85%, it still falls in the lower half of school districts. He's so misleading to posters who ask about these areas. He posts the district graduation rates, but fails to post the OTHER school districts that scored a lot higher.

I don't know why Newsday's site would be any different than the actual newspaper.

Actually, not to fuel the fire, but according to the provided link to the source... this is for 2006-2007, not 2007-2008.... unless I'm missing something.

SCHOOL REPORT CARDS (2006-07) - District-by-district test results for the 2006-07 school year, supplied by the state Education Department
That being said, I feel these stats are somewhat overrated anyway.

Both of ours are from 06-07. I don't know which are right. I don't know why Newsday would post different statistics online and in the newspaper.

The only report cards out there are for 2006-2007. The data is too new to get them compiled for 2007-2008. If you want a definitive answer on the graduation rate, refer to the following website: Graduation Rate Data. There is all sorts of info up there. The graduation rate for the 2003 cohort (those scheduled to graduate in 2007) is 85% for North Babylon and 86% as of August 2007. You can find more details on these stats on the website referenced above. I do see the different score on Newsday.com and I am not sure why...other than perhaps Newsday is doing some number crunching (note that it just says 2007 graduates, no mention of 2003 cohort). Regardless, the source of ALL this data is from the New York State Department of Education, so I just go on their website to get the info I am looking for and bypass Newsday.

Thanks. I checked the site you gave and it backs the numbers Newsday published in its print edition on August 17, 2008. I don't know why the online stats are different published August 25, but such discrepencies are typical of the sloppy journalism at Newsday.

So the bottom line is that for the 2006-2007 school year 85% of North Babylon students graduated with either a local or regents diploma. If the IEP students were added in (Rachael84 as teacher and former special education student should be appreciative) the graduation number goes up to 87%.

Maybe the numbers are not as good as those in Smithtown, but are by no means bad. Look at the state average for graduation - which is 55%. So NB is doing pretty well.

Let the OP be the judge of that. Seems like they have enough opinions and statistics to make a decision.

Good answer NBRES! the whole idea was to show that NorthBabylon is a good district and is no where near the level of Brentwood etc.

Please remember to criticize the posts or the the stats in this case , but not the person himself (or herself). Statistics are very easy to manipulate anyway as I am sure that you all know. Anyone of us could be wrong.

I live in the West Babylon/NB area and Ive never been one to favor North Babylon...I know plenty of people that are Fine with the School district despite it may not be as high as the others. People go on and on explaining to me NB`s characterized neighborhoods and beautiful areas. I definitely think people are being a little harsh, North Babylon is definitely not the worst town in Long Island, and its very far from it. As for the poster I feel that West Babylon is a great choice and has a better overall area and school district...I can answer any WB questions if needed.
