eta: The reason that your wife probably pays that much for health is because school districts are so small, they pay higher for premiums for health. DH gets cheaper healthcare because it packages all its city employees - so many people paying in = better cost.

You sure about that? My wife pays dues in addition to her medical..maybe it's 150 a month, not a paycheck. Either way, it's more than I pay working for a private company on LI.
