Default Hauppauge

We currently live in a townhouse in Farmingdale and we are looking to make a move to a private house somewhere on Long Island. We are looking for a house with a decent amount of property and realize we will have to head further east to get the type of house that we want.

We have looked at many houses in the Dix Hills area, but the houses seem to be really expensive and the taxes are high as well. We recently have seen some nice homes in Hauppauge and we know nothing about the area. We like the idea of some of the areas that are close to the LIE.

Can anyone give some input as to what kind of area Hauppauge is. From school districts to the overall community and the kind of place it is to raise a family.

Thanks so much!

Hauppauge is one of the better areas in Suffolk County. If you saw the recent "School Report Cards" in Newsday it performed close to on par with the elite districts in Suffolk. There is a lot going on from a community perspective. If I were a youngish parent buying a relatively "mid entry level house" in Suffolk County (meaning Dix Hills and Cold Spring Harbor were off the table) I woud go for Hauppauge, Harborfields or maybe Port Jeff. You definitely can't go wrong with Hauppauge. Good luck.

Just be aware that Hauppague is in 2 school districts - Hauppauge and Smithtown. I believe the taxes in Hauppauge are lower if you are in the Hauppague district. Just something to keep in mind.

Hauppauge has low taxes and nice houses. The only issue I have with it is that it is in the middle of major traffic congestion for most of the day, because of all the commercial development..which is what keeps the taxes down, by the way. If you work near there, it shouldn't be too much of an issue.
