We didn't stay in RP long enough to learn about the schools. My (then) only child was only a few years old. For the record: I didn't move out of RP because of the schools -- I wouldn't have had any issues back then with my child attending school in RP.
Many people who post here appear to be happy with the school district.
Best of luck

They're fine. Just look at the stats on the NYS dept of Ed site.
The area is a bit heavy on the "biker" types, but I don't think it's bad.

The schools are fantastic and wildly underrated.
(Its ok..keeps the taxes down)
Ask a parent or a teacher.
You'll love it.

This 'biker' type moved out years ago, while RE was still low and RP wasn't getting all the 3Vers and others who could no longer afford to buy in where they grew up.
The influx of people with who wanted to buy started turning the tides against the rentals. It also helped to clean up some of the sketchier spots, too, making RP a more desirable yet inexpensive place to purchase.
I am sure Crookhaven will concur.
Back when I lived there, RP was hardly the 'biker' den you paint it to be. There was more of a problem with young idiots with beer muscles drinking and loitering by Maddens, Avenues and Harrys. It was not a hotbed for Hells Angels. The bigger issue was that there was a fair amount of subsidized housing in a particular section then, more single parent homes and latchkey kids.
For what it's worth -- the median income for someone purchasing a new HD was $85K (HD website, investor relations - demographics) and median age was 48. Many of the local bikers are police, teachers, lawyers, dentists, tradesmen, students, retirees, etc.

Hey, no offense intended, I like the area, but when I rented there during college, there were definitely bikers living across the street, and they had more than a few friends in the neigborhood. They had jobs and such, but they make an infernal racket that is hard to ignore at 8am on a Sunday morning. The bars in town also were shady, as you mentioned.

My sister lives in Sound Beach; but the part that falls into the Miller Place SD. She doesn't seem to like it very much. Said it's not really that safe there. Just found out that this house 2 houses down is a drug house.

None taken.
I believe, in all fairness, that it isn't right to paint the entire community based upon the bikers who lived opposite you and a few of their local friends. Conversely, there are those of us who will start the bike and go so as to keep any disruption to a minimum.
When were you living there? I was there from 1991-1996 in the B'way/Locust area.
