Ok, like others have said, Westbury has different 'parts' and the lines tend to blur. Not counting Old Westbury:
New Castle-Working class and lower (Not crazy about the 'Class' label, but using for info)
Westbury-More working class/lower mid to middle class. Largest part with many hamlets
Salsbury (or South Westbury)-More mid and mid+ class. That part is close to East Meadow
As far as Westbury going 'downhill' I wouldn't say the town as a whole swirls around the toilet bowl. There's a few parts I stay away from (not throwing shade on a certain main street-but even it's coming up) but I don't shiver walking down the street or anything.

I dont think all of Westbury Village is "swirling around a toilet bowl" either. The part that goes to Carle Place schools is wonderful and I dont see anything negative happening there at all. But all the other parts are having problems. And if Westbury has "problems", New Cassel is in a crisis. Union ave especially between Maple and Prospect, its like being in another country and there is alot of gang activity and most buildings there are tagged.
I know they are putting up some new buildings there, I hope it will help change the direction that area is heading in.
I know one good thing New Cassel has and we don't: Fios TV.

Yea, those areas you mentioned on Union and Prospect (the main streets I wasn't going to spotlight ) has an influx of Central Americans and it's at the breaking point as far as space is concerned. I live between the blurry NC/WB lines (New Castlebury? West Castle? lol!) The gang activity here is no where near (thank God) what's happening in Roosevelt and parts of Freeport. The 'velt is a town gone to **** that used to be a network of working class folks paying their mortgages and car payments, and kicking back together cooking out on the weekends (my 1st memories were there as a toddler during the 70's).

Your categorization of class in Westbury is not really accurate. I've posted this type of info far to many times. Yes I live north of the parkway and it's definately middle-class and better over here. How are you defining class anyway? There is simply to much data available for you to make generalizations about class based on your experiences and not data. BTW Westbury Village has a slightly higher household income than Salisbury.
Oh and John, my neighbors and I are at fault too, because I have a landscaper who uses Central-Americans to cut my lawn as well. I just didn't want East Hills and Roslyn to take all the blame...

Yeah the illegals are moving in east of Ellison and packing 'em in there. They are loitering and riding all over the place on their bikes. I am so sick of them!

I know that if I hired a landscaper, I would want to see papers on each and every worker that he brings on my property to work. I would also ensure that the employer is paying insurance for each and every worker. I'm not going to leave my self open to getting sued if one of them falls on my property or gets hurt using the equipment because the employer isn't paying into Disability or insurance or any other taxes. I also want to know who is on my property working.
No, not all people with brown skin are here illegally, however, I would bet that about 98% of the day laborers you see in the back of landscaping trucks are here illegally.

I thought the "illegal" numbers were decreasing due to diminishing construction work?

Well, that doesn't seem to be happening. The landscaping work is still going very strong, so they bring 'em into Westbury to do the lawns for rich folks up north.

Please do not allow this thread to deteriorate into an anti-immigrant rant. (There is a whole extra forum for that.) Thanks.
