Long Islander's where are you moving to? (Florida, Henderson: real estate, mortgage)

Hi everybody! I hope all is fine!

Question- I'm constantly reading people complain how Long Island is changing and not for the better, with the cost of living, taxes, lack of jobs on LI and housing costs.

Anyway i also read many post with people saying " I'm moving ASAP".

Just curious but where are you guys moving to? What state? City? And what is your reason?

Do you agree that LI is only getting worse?

No offense, amsm196, I enjoy your questions and the responses they provoke, but I think you're going over the same topic again and again. I mean, I've seen you ask more or less the same question about Long Island five or six times in the last weeks!

There was an article in Newsday a while back about all the people leaving Long Island. I can't recall all the places and all the numbers but I do recall that more people moved to other loactions in NYS than any where else. The Carolinas are a popular spot as is Florida.

I want to move to Henderson, Nevada in about 3 years. It's basically considered Las Vegas, but a real big suburb (in case no one's heard of it).

Moved to Southwest Missouri. We moved here because my husband is a musician, and it's closer to his tour bus in Branson. That's the primary reason we moved.....however: our property taxes on Long Island were over $7,000 per year on 1/4 acre. We purchased 17 acres (at 1/4 the cost of NY prices), have huge, stocked ponds, over an acre each, horses, beautiful countryside....WE JUST GOT OUR FIRST TAX BILL, AND IT WAS $390.

In Missouri, real residential property is assessed at 19% of its fair market value. If you’re paying $390 then the assessed value of house and land is $2,052.63. That is highly unlikely.

We own 17 acres, house is small- 2200 square feet, several out buildings, including a huge barn for our horses, two 28 foot deep stocked ponds ...and I'm telling you my real estate taxes were $390 . I know what I paid. In addition, our utility bills are approximately 1/2, and we paid cash for this property after selling in NY, and therefore have no mortgage payments either. I think that makes up for everything......I loved NY, but this is just awesome.
