Default Roads in Holtsville: Long Island Avenue

The area between Waverly Avenue and 83 on Long Island Avenue in Holtsville..it looks like it's been shelled. WTH is the Town of Brookhaven doing? I live in TO Islip, but damn...if I lived over there, I'd be livid. I understand a pothole every now and then, but this road looks like it hasn't been paved in 20 years. The side roads near there aren't much better.

Thanks for feeling our pain. I'm a resident of Holtsville and have recently assisted in reviving the HOltsville Civic for the sole purpose of not being neglected any longer. I'm happy to report that L.I.Avenue is on the Dept. of Highways "to do" list. The section between Rte 112 and N. Ocean has already been paved. The section between Waverly & Blue Pt. is up next. And the section between N. Ocean & Blue Pt is up for next year. Hopefully soon, we'll all have a decent road to drive on.

The section between Waverly and Blue Point is the worst, so that is good to hear. It should have never been allowed to get that bad, though.

Well, here we are the first day of the New Year 2009 and not only have we been screwed out of the 1st phase of the road project (remember Long Island Avenue from Waverly to Blue Point was promised to have been completed by the end of the 2008 Road Resurfacing Projects) but we have just finished our 2nd snow/ice event and not one drop of sand or salt on any of our streets!! To add insult to injury, you can't even get a hold of someone at town hall, brookhaven highway, nor code enforcement!! Guess Brookhaven just rolls up the sidewalks on holidays. I have my doubts about anything getting done in Holtsville (THE FORGOTTEN TOWN)

I suspect nothing is being done there due to the large scale hush hush mixed use Transit oriented development.
project TOB has slated for Ronkonkoma Rail.

If they had any smarts they would be looking at the old Multiplex near 112 off the LIE Service road and electrifying to there rather than sending insane amouts of traffic from ELI to the train at Exit 60.

Sadly Holtsville borders on Islip and has been left for dead..they will be putting up all of their uglies near the Township line.
Brookhaven is a Big Dumb Ape.

F Brian Foley and shame on him for selling out to the developers and not looking at whats best for the residents of Brookhaven.

If I was in the Holtsville Civic....Id reach out to the Ronkonkoma Civic and start pushing for the Brookhaven rail deveopment project to be sent eastward where it would provide the most benefit without putting undue hardship on the border towns.

Ronkonoma rail isnt the answer....its the problem.
Just look at the log jam at exits 65-60( which will soon be directed down LI Ave.)

Be afraid...be very afraid.

Brookhaven Town has the worst snow/ice removal I've seen anywhere. They never clear the sidestreets, even around Chereb Lane in it Port Jeff it was skating rink, with cars and buses skidding.
It doesn't help that Brookhaven is one of few towns on Long Island that doesn't even have it's own sanitation fleet (it gets contracted out).

I had NO sand/salt/ice snow removal whatsoever during the past 2 storms, and I live RIGHT off Montauk Hwy.

You're not going to believe this. I called the TOB Highway Dept and my Councilman's office at 9:05 yesterday morning, at 2:15 a sand truck arrives and stops at the corner of Woodycrest and Cooke ave. I came out of my house and motioned to him to drop the sand up and down Woodycrest and Cooke Ave. He turned the corner drop some sand on an ice patch in front of my neighbors house and then left the development, I stood there in disbelief!! Again this morning I woke up to a street of Ice/black Ice. You just can't make this stuff up!!
