Default Did the speed limit change on William Floyd?

It may be just that I do the drive too often, but I thought the speed limit on Billy Floyd was 55. However north of Brookhaven Lab, I've noticed signs for 45 MPH. Did this change? How long ago? Or was it always 45 and I just assumed it's been 55 all these years?

wow, I have no idea & I drive it everyday. I would really be surprised if it was lowered. That is not the most dangerous area of William Floyd Pkwy. I'll have to pay attention to the signs on Monday.

it's probably a speed trap. They like to do things like that. suddenly change the limit and post a cop right down the road, waiting for you. Be carefull!!

I just got to work for my big ol' pile of shift work. It is 45mph from 25A all the way to BNL. I thought it was 55 also.

There is construction by Whiskey Rd...but the speed limit signs look permanent. Could it be one too many cars slamming into deer?

As a final note...this new development did not stop the two morons in the black pick up from blasting by me at 75 mph

People do go way too fast on that road, but I think that's a Long Island Phenomenon on every road except parts of Rte 347. I have seen more cops on that road lately when I've left BNL late. Maybe they needed the money. Getting caught doing 75 in a 45 is a nasty ticket! Of course, I'm one of those people the rest of you hate - I usually do 55 on Floyd. Get better gas mileage in my 'ole car if I keep her at or under 55. Over that an my mileage tanks.

I wish the cops would crack down on those landscaping trucks with loose debris and men standing on the back as hard as they are with speeders. But that wouldn't be politically correct! There is no reason that stretch of William Floyd Pkwy should be less than 55mph, it's a highway. Its bad enough they are slowing people down with all those out of synch lights. You used to sail down Rt.347, now they have every light set up so you stop at every one, unless you speed. Sometimes I think they are trying to agitate drivers so they blow a light or speed, and bring in more revenue for the county.

Actually, we just got a warning at the lab saying that the speed limit was changed and that police will be cracking down and writing tickets. Be warned!
