Bodybuilding in Long Island
I posted in the Fitness forum as well with pics, but figured more people would see it in the Long Island forum, and it's a subject I don't see often in Citi-Data.com.
I'm very new to Long Island and am seeking a lifting partner and athletic friends to help me step up my game. Also practice yoga and would like to learn serious wrestling and mixed martial arts. I'm semi-retired and have the time, means and wherewithal to pursue a serious bodybuilding lifestyle.
Optimally recreational and competitive bodybuilders to push me to eventual competition. I live in the Huntington area and am considering joining Bev Francis' Powerhouse Gym in Syosset.

Go to almost any gym in Nassau County. Guidos and juicers are in abundance.

Bev Francis is an awesome gym! I live on the southshore -- and we have some incredibly awesome places down here where many competitive powerlifters train (The New Gym in West Hempstead is one -- owned by Shawna Mendelsohn who is just INCREDIBLE and the former Iron Island Gym -- now called South Shore fitness in Island Park). Long drive from Huntington -- but a nice workout for a change on the weekends that afford time.
Bev Francis churns out a lot of fitness, figure and bbing competitors on the circuits.
Good luck!

Love Bev Francis' gym! My DH and I used to workout there when we lived in Woodbury. It was great b/c it was no frills...people were there to workout, not model. (My DH used to compete in powerlifting competitions.)
We moved to Huntington in 2001 and started going to NYSC, but I hated it there (DH still has a membership.) We're now considering the YMCA.
As for MMA, Matt Serra has a Jiu-Jitsu place in Huntington on Jericho Tpke. Might be worth looking into if you're interested in MMA.

Thanks for the replies, everyone! I haven't checked the site for awhile, just did now.
TheImportersWife: It was worth risking public humiliation or censure by posting my pics on Citi Data just to get a response from a username like TheImportersWife. Love the name! Evokes an amalgam of vintage Ray Bradbury Scifi-ish and nineties Lifetime movies (at least to me).
I'm definitely joining Bev's in two weeks - where I am in Huntington (Lloyd Harbor) it's as close to me as the East Northport Golds Gym. I'd join sooner but I'm waiting for a torn tendon in my foot to heal. I have a friend who goes to Huntington NYSC but it's just not my vibe. Those types of places are too sunny and hard-edged for me. Plus I like everything on one level.
Curious as to why you'd replace Bev with the Huntington Y? Bev seems like a much better deal - unless family rates are cheaper, and you just want to consolidate with the pool. I'm going to join the Huntington Y next week for the pools unless I can find a better deal and/or better pool.
Thanks also for the mma tip! Also, what's a DH? I'm almost afraid to ask.
Kathealy: The New Gym sounds interesting. I will be joining Bev's but it seems to be not unusual for lifters to shake things up by daypassing or joining a second gym. Will keep it in mind!
Peter B.: lol! U get mad rep from me!
manavgupta1: Nope, no partner yet because it's been one injury after another preventing me from working out. But soon no excuses - two weeks from now, the rebuilding begins! Feel free to direct message me!
