Orange painted circles on street. what are they for? (Islip: zoning, codes)

This morning I looked out the window and I noticed small orange circles painted on the street. They are painted in the middle of the street but almost seem to line up to property lines.

I called the town of Islip and spoke to Public works but they had no idea. I then called zoning and they had no idea. Does anyone know what these orange painted circles mean? (Don't say Alien landings please)

The reason I am asking is because our block does not have gas and I am wondering if they are running lines maybe? I tend to think it's related to property lines but i am not sure. Any ideas?

Orange Marks are for: Communication, Alarm, Signal Lines, Cable and Conduit

Most likely for Fios, Verizon telephone or cable. Sounds like they will be doing some excavation on your street. More and different colors will come your way...........

I was going to send a message to you directly but decided it would be better if everyone knew as well. Thanks so much for your response. It's strange that no one else I asked this morning from the town knew what it was. You know your stuff.

I just googled your response and came up with a few more...

UTILITY CODES RED- Electric power line cables, Conduit & Lighting cable

YELLOW- Gas, Oil, Steam, Petroluem, Gaseous Materials

ORANGE- Communications, Alarm, Signal Lines, Cable or Conduit.

BLUE- Water, Irrigation, Slurry

GREEN- Sewers & Drain Lines

PINK- Temporary Survey Mark

WHITE- Proposed Excavation
