Tipping - Newsday
I get Newsday delivered 7 days a week - I get an envelope for a tip once a month - what's an appropriate amount to tip? (I'm billed separately by Newsday for the paper)

Hi Courtney - Thanks for the quick reply! Newsday sends me a bill every two months for $40. I've been tipping $10 a month and just wanted to make sure I wasn't undertipping....I also give him a Holiday gift of $25. How are you supposed to know what to do? No one really talks about these things...that's why I'm glad I found this forum just to get some input.

I get the envelope every four weeks and tip $5.00. (I'm also billed seperately for the paper).

I do the same as Dan, 5 per month, my bill per month is 12.50.
I can't stand the stupid envelopes, it was much better when I could set it up the tip amount to get billed to my CC with the paper.
Actually, I cheat a little, I have an automated payment sent to the guy's address on his envelope. So every other month a check shows up in his mailbox from my bank for $10.

My next "tip" in the envelope is going to be a note asking him for the third time to please, not throw the paper in the middle of the lawn. Am I being unreasonable? Every morning I have to walk in the cold, wet grass in my flip flops to get the paper....I guess I'm spoiled - my last guy used to leave it on the top step - I didn't even have to walk out of the house!

Do you get the paper everyday? My monthly bill is $25.00. I wonder why?

Hey it could be worse, have you ever had to CRAWL under a car on average of twice a week in the middle of the winter to get the newspaper?

Between the Newsday carrier and the Daily News carrier, almost all of my solar lights are broken or mangled. It's not like when I was a kid and helped my neighbor on his Newsday route...we had specific instructions to put the paper in a mailbox or inside a screen door. Now, they're guys in cars that just fling it as they coast by...so wherever it lands, it lands.
My favorite is when the paper is on top of the car in the driveway. It happens about twice a month and it does make me laugh first thing in the morning!
