Default 25 and relocating

My company has offered me a job down in NY/NJ and I will be relocating from Boston. I travel a lot for my job, but the bulk of my responsibilities will be on Long Island. As as single 25yr old guy who likes to go out, where do you think the best places to live would be?

I'd like to move to a city that has a nightlife, coffee shops like a mini Manhattan. Ideally, I'd like to pay between $900-1100 for an apartment. Any thoughts would be very appreciated.

Thank you!

Huntington, Rockville Centre, Long Beach. I think are the only place young professionals live on Long Island.

Mini Manhattan you wont find on LI. In which town will you be working in? I would say live close to your job ...the less commute the better. There are a few places to go out on Long Island (few clubs lots of bars etc) but the majority of things you'd probably want to do will be in NYC. Going to the city wont be much of a big deal. Just jump on the LIRR and get off at Penn Station. Congrats on your new job!

move to Long Beach! It's a great beach community. We have lots of independent stores, some cute coffee shops and lots of bars and restaurants. If you are looking for a mini-Manhattan - long beach is the way to go. I also think it's one of the best kept secrets on Long Island and in NY in general.

It's definitely possible to get an apartment for 900-1100. I have a nice 1 bedroom apartment in Queens that's $750/month. It's in Astoria, which is only a 10 minute subway ride from Manhattan and a really popular area among young professionals. To the OP: I would look into areas of Queens. You're closer to Manhattan, more to do, and I know you can easily get some apartments for that price if I found 2 for $750.

Here's a link for tons of apartments 1100 and below. I would suggest looking at Astoria, Woodside, Elmhurst, Long Island city, Sunnyside:

classifieds - craigslist
