Default Balikbayan box pick up

I was wondering if there are any Filipino couriers around East Meadow, Hicksville, Bellmore area that will pick up balikbayan boxes.

I've been searching the internet to no avail.

Appreciate your inputs.

Thanks

Pixie

For those not familiar with Balikbayan Boxes (I know I wasn't!):

Sorry to go on a tangent, but isn't direct delivery service infrastructure in the Philippines mature enough that something like FedEx or UPS would be a viable option?

I remeber from my childhood when even a letter would take weeks to get from the US to the Philippines, and a Balikbayan box was pretty much brought home by private individuals who would do it as a favor or in return for compensation. The cost and logistics of getting something shipped directly door to door just wasn't an option.

Surely things are better now though, right? What's the going rate for a Balikbayan box service versus UPS/FedEx?

I read the Wiki article and it says that the Balikbayan Boxes are a much cheaper alternative than using a traditional carrier.

I would think if you're only sending a small item, you would use UPS/FedEx/DHL/USPS but if you're sending a ton of stuff (like a lot of people send "home" when they're living in the States), a Balikbayan Box seems the way to go.

That's what I read, I had no clue what it was. I just figured since I noticed the store, they might know.

Default Use LBC Balikbayan Shipping for New York & New Jersey

[quote=Pixie_NY;5585006]I was wondering if there are any Filipino couriers around East Meadow, Hicksville, Bellmore area that will pick up balikbayan boxes.

I've been searching the internet to no avail.

Pixie, and everyone else....

You are in luck. Probably most, if not all, the filipino stores in the New York / New Jersey area are agents or drop off points for LBC.

LBC ships balikbayan boxes out of Jersey City, New Jersey to the Philippines. If you deliver the box yourself to the Jersey City office, it will probably only cost about $70-$75 for a 24"x18"x18" box regardless of weight. (My wife and I have sent boxes weighing 210 pounds... our average is 150-175 pounds.)

Just stop by one of your local filipino stores and pick up a box or two, or just go to one of the LBC offices. Maybe even call the Jersey City office to see who the agent/pickup guy is for your area.

My wife and I live south of Baltimore and our agent down here drives 2 truckloads of boxes up to Jersey City every week. From down here it costs $95 to Leyte. We once delivered 2 boxes ourselves to the Jersey City office.

The LBC website does not list any office for New York... but you may have some independent agents there... again call Jersey City and ask who picks up in your area.

If you want to get a box to the Philippines for Christmas, I suggest you get moving. Shipping to Manila takes 5-6 weeks from Jersey City. Shipping to Visayas or Mindanao 6-8 weeks from Jersey City. We have boxes take from 39 days to 56 days from Jersey City to Ormoc, Leyte.... with the average around 46 days. So, if your are shipping to Visayas or Mindanao you'd best get your box to Jersey City by Nov 1st.... and if going to Manila, or Luzon, by November 8th.

Here are the New Jersey offices of LBC. The Jersey City office has an 800 number.

Is there any Filipino located nearby Pocahontas, AR? Same place was 1 hour away from Jonesboro, AR and 15 min from Walnut Ridge, AR.
