Smile Have you used Criterium-Tauscher Cronacher Engineers for a home inspection?

I know that they are based out of Rockville Center.

Looking for anyone who has used them for a inspection of their home?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks...

If I was not the best inspector on LI (lol), thats who I would use. Make sure you get one of the more experienced inspectors as they hired some new people on a few years ago.

Used them in 99/2000 for my home inspection. They are sometimes referred to as deal killers by some realtors and attorneys, which is why I liked them. I found them to be picky, annoying and overly thorough, which is what I wanted. I was pleased.

Why do real estate people try to discourage buyers from using good inspection companies?

Most of us do not. However, there are some home inspection companies out there who believe it is their job to scare the buyer. In my more cynical moments I believe that some try to discourage a buyer from going through with the purchase so that they can pick up an additional fee (or two) as they keep bringing them back to inspect more homes (which they trash).

It's not so much their findings, but how they express them. When an inspector points out flaws in a home, without putting them in context, they are doing a disservice to the buyer.

I just used a company that made statements in the report about the house, but couldn't support them.
They would say - "there may or may not be......" What does that mean?

THe old "scare the buyer into 3 inspections" trick. I works well on new home buyers and Tom is right on with his statement about the right context. IMO, that trick only hurts the firms reputation and is poor practice.

Check out NAHI.org and look for a CRI. You may also want to checkout the ASHI website. Good luck!

I used them on my home purchase in 2001 (almost the peak). Needless to say, I just sold that same home and it turns out they didn't pick up on some very big problems (which were there for years). I used Steve Enesa (sp?) from WIN in Merrick for my new home and he was terrific....very thorough and actually made us go through the house with him so we'd understand everything. He gave us a great education and he was really nice also.
