What are you talking about ?
Its the new people fleeing the city that go for that crap. Mexican gardeners, Shopping malls, Starbucks, TGI, Sushi shacks not real Long Islanders.
#2 And all the Delis I know get the stuff delivered from Boars head, Western Beef and such I see the trucks

Personally I grow my own Tomatos, make my own sauce, Pizza, wine and do my own landscaping and repairs. Treated myself to a 77 Trans AM Classic last fall
The only place we eat out is Majors in East Meadow & N Fork Elbow Room

And I'm glad the houses are expensive and the taxes are high.

Let's face it, most people think any accent other than their own (with the possible exception of a Brit's) is either hideous, laughable, unintelligible, or any or all of the above!

Southerners say Yankees talk too fast, Yankees say Southerners talk too slow, and both of them say Midwesterners break every word into too darn many syllables. I have no idea what Midwesterners think of the way Yankees and Southerners talk, but I'm willing to bet it's not complimentary.

IMHO all this regional mudslinging and insult-flinging is ridiculous. I also find it ironic that so many people who wonder why there can't be peace between nations, see nothing wrong with spewing insults toward people who merely live in different areas of the USA and happen to have lifestyles and accents different from their own. Peace on earth??! What a laugh, when so many don't even seem willing to tolerate the differences in their fellow-countrymen.

Believe me, I have done my share of complaining about how rude and obnoxious Long Islanders are but not all LIers are like that. Momix, I am so sorry you and your daughter have had bad experiences. I work with special ed kids and the other special ed teachers I work with are so wonderful and caring. The kids themselves are a joy and if others looked past their disabilities and stopped to get to know them, they would be humbled. We work very hard to teach tolerance to the typical children who share classes with the disabled ones. At first they snicker and laugh but then they learn to look past whatever makes them uncomfortable and are able to engage in a relationship with them. It's really beautiful to see. Those who are incapable of doing that are just ignorant. Unfortunately, you see that everywhere, not just on LI. Good luck to you and your daughter. I hope you have had and will continue to have some good experiences too. I hate to think LI is as bad as we all make it out to be. In any case, I'm sure you are both very strong people because of it.

Me and millions of other people.

It's survival of the fittest, if you can't make it here there's always North Carolina.

Tennesse may take you also...

The place sets the ultimate standard in low standards - and all with that utterly grating accent. Glad not to be anywhere near the place anymore. As for trying to compare it with Connecticut- wow. Your tastebuds must have really atrophied - perhaps you really do like that over-done pasta and tomatoes that passes for Italian food or the quick serve delis that buy their supplies from Costco.
I'm p****g myself laughing over this. Couldn't have put it any better- I remember trying to decide where to live when I was downstate, and LI was the absolute last place on earth I'd consider. Basically a long strip of overcrowded strip malls, plastic, overcrowded leavittown neighborhoods and a minimum 2 hour drive when trying to get off the godforesaken place to anywhere else in the tri-state region. Add in a bunch Queens expatriates with pastrami accents, and you have a post apocalyptic nightmare of a community. The only nice part of the Island is at the very end, too bad you have to drive through the bowels of hell to get out there. Go Jets! Go Boomah! Pass the pizzer!
Also, notice how half the NY posts on the board are LI, that's 'cause half the g**dam city (read Queens) moved out there after WW2.

I'm so glad these gavoon's and tar beach cowboys hate Long Island, now if it can turn off the "south of the border" criminals looking to drop jackpot babys.
