Long Island views...photography.
Hi all,
I'm trying to find some high-up locations that I can take pictures from in Suffolk County. Particularly, it would be great if it overlooked an "urban" area with traffic lights, stop lights, lots of lit buildings at night...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I can't help you with urban views, but I can tell you several great spots with views. Bald Hill in Farmingville, either at the memorial on Ocean ave or at the Crookhaven town hall.
Also the "other" Bald Hill off route 51 across from Suffolk Community College in Riverhead.
In Nassau you can try Levy Preserve in Merrick, off Merrick road just east of the Meadowbrook parkway. It was a former landfill turned into a park, from the top you can see alot of buildings and even the NYC skyline. The latter one would probably be the best for you, but you'll have to travel to Nassau. I dont think any of these preserves are open at night. You're probably better off going to the city.

In Nassau, you can take 'aerial' pics from the windows of Hofstra University's library. It's quite tall and you don't have to be a student. Just take the elevator up. It's quite an interesting view after a light snowfall - lots of contrast.
Then there's the view from the cafeteria windows in the former EAB bank building across from the Nassau Coliseum.
I imagine that any really tall building on LI will afford you a similar view from one of their windows.

Brooklyn is physically Long Island, if you went to GreenWood Cemetery there is one part is the southern corner where you can stand on a hill overlooking Brooklyn, with buildings, traffic lights and even industrial works in the distance. Two other areas will get you views of both downtown and midtown NYC as well. Sounds like what you are looking for just not in Suffolk.

Thanks for the recommendation.
I wonder if they'd give me a hard time for going up there...
