I stand corrected, Mr. Softee. We had a Carvel place (I think it was on Elmont Road) There was a a Chinese restaurant and Stride Rite shoe store near it.
I will be calling my LI friends here in Houston and let them know about this thread. |

Can't help thinking of the beach clubs from the 60's in Atlantic Beach. We went to Capri Beach Club along with the whole neighborhood and had our Senior Prom right next door at El Patio Beach Club. My sister and I went to Adelphi University about 30 years ago. Right after class all the girls would take off for Hofstra to watch the Jets practice football. My sister was always trying to climb the fence (along with other girls) to get to Joe Namath. Never made it, but when he was finishing practice one day I saw him walking up to the gate and grabbed my sister. As soon as he was close by I pushed my sister right into him. Luckily, he started laughing and gave her the hug she was waiting for.
We did our shopping in the 5 towns, especially Ronnie's in Cedarhurst and ate at Peter's Italian Restaurant . I cannot remember the name of the street Peter's was on. |

Just thought of a place besides Nathans where all the kids hung out. It was Whiskey Reds. There was sawdust on the floor and a lot of large barrels for tables.

I went roller skating all the time at Wallcliff. I am from Elmont and to Overtaxed, there was nothing like the Birdcage.

Did we already mention Big Barry's Steak House or the Saint James Infirmary in North Babylon?
I'm missing my Long Island, what a place it was. |

I remember Barney's where we would go for a lobster dinner. I can also remember Breakfast at Belmont where my dad took us. On many a weekend we would take a ride to the Milleridge INN. (It was out on the island but don't remember where) |

I remember skating at Hot Skates in Lynbrook, or Top Rollers in Oceanside. Anybody ever went to Day Camp? I am a proud "alum" of Bar H, Camp DeBaun, and Camp Millet.

The Bird Cage was by Lord and Taylors in Garden City. It had very large bird cages and was a bit on the pricey side for those days.
As someone on another thread said about my hometown,"You can't even walk through it today." It was the greatest place growing up and it is such a shame. I live in Houston now and it is not a good place to raise kids. The weather will kill you and the people here cannot understand my "NY" personality. The people I get along with end up being from NY or NJ. |

I was shopping Sunday at the Target in Bay Shore, next to it is a dollar tree now, but they are doing the sign over, and you can see the old Flower Time sign under the construction, remember Flower Time? Anyone from Commack remember Buddy L Ice Cream? It was where the Boston Market is now! I grew up in Smithtown and remember Commack so well!
