My faves...

the Floral Park-Bellerose-Glen Oaks movie theatre circuit; if you missed a show at one, it would move to the next and you could catch it!
Nunley's Amusement Park in Baldwin
Wetson's Hamburgers (which were driven out by McD's)
The original Roosevelt Field mall, only two lanes and they had:
Supreme Pizza, the best corner slices!
Baskin Robbins, right next door.
Bruckner's bridal shop!
79cent singles in the front of the record stores!

Gertz, Korvettes, Kresge's, Two Guys.
Did you all know Korvettes was a store started by Veterans of the Korean War?
Carvel
Shopping in the neighborhood, not at the mall.
The local butcher, fish market, bakery, deli
Bowling alley french fries; never better!

But in the late 80s they had Buffet Brunches open to the Public.

"Any one from suffolk county LongIsland?"

Islip - 13 years. That is Islip itself, right off of Commack Rd. It was a pretty nice neighborhood. I've been back a few times and it still seems pretty good to me.

You know those "memorials" that people sometimes place at the site of where a loved one died in a car accident....we've all seen them.... Are they a uniquely Long Island thing? I seem to recall reading something a few years ago that said these aren't usually done in other areas, and that there's a tacit understanding that they aren't removed by whatever entity maintains our roadways.

It is true that I never noticed any of them when driving in CT, NJ, RI and Mass ... so now I wonder if they are indeed a "Long Island thing"?

Has anyone else seen 'memorials' at all, or with any regularity, elsewhere than on LI?
I've seen a lot of them in Florida and Rhode Island.
