Do you remember Miss. Morgan, Miss. Robin or Miss. Chris? I had a Jake on my afternoon bus run. If I remember correctly he had the morning sesson and went home at noon. Cute kid and quick with the wit. LOL This was during the '83-'84 season. He also, lived in Oceanside between Lawson and LB Rd.

Wow, you're really drawing on my memory!! Sorry, I don't remember any counselors or anyone else. It's been a long time. I lived in Oceanside near OHS on Dwight St and my name's not really Jake!

Thank you OhBeeHave, Nancy, and Pippi for your responses about the Shack clam bar.

This thread reminds just how much I loved L.I., growing up and as an adult. When we were kids, we had everything available to us, no further away than a bike ride. Small village streets, harbors, beaches, parks, lakes with boats we could rent, big old mansions and hidden gravestones and arrowheads to discover, grape arbors, woods and marshes, fields and wide open spaces to explore, and yet we also had big shopping centers with every store imaginable. Were kids everywhere in the U.S. as lucky as we were? We didn't need computer games. The biggest adventures were right outside our door.

That is so true. I don't know how old you are , but yours is the Long Island that I remember also. Wouldn't it be wonderful to go back for just one day to relive it all?

I should have that darn time machine working as soon as I can find a Cap't Video space helmet, a pristine Winky Dink set and an old black and white Westinghouse TV (two tone, pink and white).

Default Hi....

I'm Rick... the owner of Car Tunes!

or

The turtle from the insurance agency... I can't remember his name.

I heard Buchmann retired... I remember in high school we went and saw Bob and Perry Appollo broadcast live from Jack in the Box in Commack! OMG.

And then I was the last caller on the Trick Question of the Day... it was the small things that I'll always remember. Well, that and Hills in Hauppauge and Commack. Best grocery store ever!

Thank you, Nancythereader!

I'm a third generation Long Islander, born in 1949. My parents grew up in Farmingdale and Central Park (Bethpage). My grandparents had a big old house on Powell Ave with grape arbors, veg. gardens, and chickens. My uncle would walk to the golf course to caddy. 135 runs through there now.

Hasn't the Bethpage State Parkway been kept pretty much in its original state? I hope so. I always thought it was the most beautiful pkwy on Long Island.

My favorite bike ride was the path alongside that Parkway. We rode down Plainview Rd (which was a nicer ride before it was all messed up by 135) to the traffic circle, then down along the path to the Southern State bridge, stopping to have a picnic, sitting with our feet in the crystal clear stream. My mother used to ride her bike down along Wantagh Parkway to go to the beach. Who does that anymore?

I grew up right across from the Frick Estate , moonlight. Now, it is The Nassau County Museum of Art, but in the fifties the Fricks still lived there & we kids would climb over the fence and walk around the beautiful property. There were fox and deer , quail and pheasants. Childs Frick would see us and just wave (he would drive by on the estate roadways in his little Mercedes convertible). There was so much land . It seemed to go on forever.
