Mr Dour?? WOW, he was my SS teacher in 10th grade. What a sweetheart of a man. One of my favorite teachers! I remember gluing a quarter to his desk once. (I was a bad kid) You know, the legend was that every year towards spring, he'd blow up at the class!! It was strange because he was soooo mild and laid back. But like clockwork, he freaked out at the whole class in the spring.
Next day everything was cool.
Mr Dour was the best. They don't make teachers like that anymore.

Thanks karlx for remembering my Dad. He really was a sweetheart of a man and spent almost 30 years teaching at WB Senior High. Towards the end of his teaching career at West Babylon (1986), he had kids of students he had from when he first started teaching there.

For the newbies on this thread, somewhere along the lines of the 100+ pages you will find pictures of Bungalow Bar truck, Good Humor, Mr. Softee.

Opened in April...it used to be another bar/restaurant. It's just west of Horseblock Rd. on Montauk Hwy.
I'm a younger person (23 years old), but I remember when there used to be Finast and King Kullen in East Patchogue (now Blockbuster/Goodwill and a future Lowes). Those were freakishly small.
Also for those in the Bellport/Brookhaven/EP area, the recently closed Waldbaums in EP will become a Shop Rite.

Sam Ash music store in Hempstead. And Gretchens too.
The Action House (first bar I ever entered and drank at) which became The Rock Pile in Island Park.
How many here can deny having burned some brain cells at the Uniondale Mini Cinema? The midnight shows were THE BEST!
One of the greatest perks of having grown up on LI was the opportunity to see amazing bands live in concert like Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Tull, ZZ Top, Peter Frampton, ELP, the Stones (just to name a few). I never realized how lucky I was until I moved out of state and people were jaw dropped to hear the amount of great concerts I was privileged to attend.
On the musical/band note, Jeffhhs76 mentioned the local band Broken Arrow... my ex husband was one of the founding members of that band and played with them for many many years. I'd kill to have one dollar for every rehearsal and gig I sat through LOL. And on a sad note, Hank Perez (singer/member and brother of guitarist Joey) passed away a few years ago at a very young age (Love and miss you Hanky!)
But one of my fondest memories of living in Island park as a child was bumming $5 off of my father every Saturday and taking my little sister to the boardwalk in Long Beach to go on the rides and play games for tickets/prizes. It's amazing to think that it was normal for parents to allow a youngster to travel that far for a day unattended and not worry about them (I was about 10 at the time and my sis was 6).

Didn't Broken Arrow play the same bar circut as Fever, Boston Burglar, Alive n Kickin... brain farting at the moment on some others. LOL

Noodles are not served with the soup and the food does not taste like NY Chinese food. You have to talk to someone from the east to back me up because the people born down here have nothing to compare their food to. When my oldest son came home from his first trip to NY the first thing he said was that he would move to NY just for the food. He never believed me until he took the trip and found out for himself.
