No mention of LI clubs would be complete without talking about Tuey's in Stony Brook. I practically grew up there listening to some awesome bands and drinking a lot of cheap beer. And the Mad hatter was a close second, with Twisted Sister as the featured band every now and then. I know I lost a few decibels off of my hearing from them, but it was worth it. And port Jeff was always hopping on summer nights, if the live music scene wasn't on the agenda. Ah, the fortunes of a misspent youth !!

A few more places...
Commack Motor Inn
Mad Hatter (where all those LI bands played)
OBI
And if you didn't end up at the diner (for breakfast at 2 AM), then it was Duncan Donuts.

This was a nice memory. My daughter was conceived at Commack Motor Inn and I gave birth at Freeport. There was a girl in the labor room with me who came in after me and delievered first. I was so mad at her. I went to school with her at Southedge. Do you remember this Alice? Does anyone remember when Plainedge was Southedge. If you do, then like me you were the first graduating class. 1958. God are we old.

Yes, Apparently you pronounce Long Island as Lawn Guy-land
Living in California, as soon as I open my mouth I'm pegged as a "New Yorker". Every once in a while someone will actually pinpoint it as Long Island.
Once somone asked, "Are you from Boston?"
I was floored. Boston? Now THAT'S an accent. I was floored.

When I lived in Sacramento all my friends would trick me into saying things like "cawfeee". I learned pretty quick to lose the Island accent. I got pretty good at it as I had some folks who hated New Yorkers go on about how bad we were and were surprised when I told them I was one.

Having lived Texas for several decades I still proudly maintain my "New York Accent". When people say to me I have an accent I correct them and let them know I do not have an accent, they do.
But, being actively, politcally involved in this state my "accent" has gotten me through doors others could not get into, all thanks to that NY accent.

Try living in Singapore with a New York/LI accent.... worked at Hammerheads and Tiffanys Wine and Cheese (Commack). Twisted Sister, Zebra, DC Star, Crystal Ship... remember Uncle Sams? CMInn... fun times there... Salty Dog, OBI, Hayloft... Early mornings at Robert Moses Beach.... Concerts at Jones Beach. Anyone remember concerts at the Commack Arena (bfore it became a flea market and latter torn down???) Beaches... Little Africa, Smiths Point, Gilgo (surfin), Jones Beach (learning about life with my girlfriend between the dunes where no one could see us.....).
Kids today - wrapped up in ipods, internet and Xbox.... the memories we have where with real people and where always outside of our homes.... well a couple of memories of home (when the parents where out... lol)
