You know you're from LI when you can't understand why homes in other parts of the country have trash pickup only once a week (plus one recyclables) even though they pay about the same amount per year for it as we do.

I pay 8,000 less a year in just taxes... over the last 5 years that's a savings of 40,000 in just taxes but in all fairness I do pay a monthly fee of 15 bucks to have my garbage picked up once a week....

Southern Cross used to play at Maxis & Renaissance (now a restaurant & flower shop) in Wantagh as well as Stanton Anderson and Mr. McGoo, circa 1975/76. Just before Disco ruined the band clubs. Arthurs on Alhambra Drive in Massapequa (Little Buster, Otter Creek, Billy McKuen, etc. w/ $1 Buds). Neptunes South, Right Track Inn, Past Times Pub (Amityville), Rumbottoms (Plainedge - Hank Stevenson Band), My Fathers Place, etc. Oak Beach Inn - North (Smithtown), East (Hampton Bays) West (Island Park), & of course the original - South, Manhatter of Stonybrook.
Does anyone remember "Burgers N Shakes", Bicks (Levittown), Carrols (Wantagh), Robert Hall on Merrick Road in Seaford; now the Seaford P. O., Buster Brown & Harry's Place in Wantagh. Pat (from Texas - '60's) & Ed (the Drunken) Good Humor men ('70's). Cherrywood Pizza, Hefro's, Woolworths, Cherrywood Meats, Will's Bar and the Cherrywood Lounge. Putting baseball cards on your bicycle spokes. Sting ray bikes with banana seats and high handle bars, Little Red Flyer wagons. Making mini bikes, skate board from old rollerskates, Having enough kids in the neighborhood to have a couple teams to play baseball, football, basketball, hockey...w/o adult supervision and NOT having to make a play date (play date - How Pathetic!). The times have changed!
We played unsupervised ball in a sandy lot with rusty nails and broken glass and no one was maimed.
