anyone remember Aardvark in Levittown, just east of where May's was. Also a bar on Merrick Road in Bellmore The Kobblers Knob or Sargent Peppers Pub?
How about the Glass Onion "head Shop" in Levittown? |

Do you remember years ago, in Roosevelt Field Mall, that Pier 1 Imports used to have a headshop in the back of the store? They also had blacklight posters, and much other paraphernalia, not anything like the store is today.

![]() I guess the closest thing to a headshop today would be someplace like Spencer Gifts? They seem to have some pretty esoteric merchandise. |

I don't know if Spencer's sells actual "head" gear, but they certainly have an interesting assortment of things!

I used to love the Salty Dog!Remember all the comedy clubs on Long Island in the 80's? I used to go to East Side Comedy Club in Huntington, saw Bob Nelson on Sunday nights alot, and Rosie Odonnell a few times, Remember Different Strokes it was in The Smithhaven Mall they always sold some "interesting" stuff! What amazes me is how the malls have changed, Smithaven and Walt Whitman are nothing like they used to be! They are sooooo upscale. Remember Orange Julius? I think there was one in the Sunrise Mall and Smithaven too!

When I lived in Hicksville, always visited the Plainview store on SOB road. Then moved to Suffolk and visited the Smithtown store (if I remember it had an escalator). Since they moved to the malls, stopped going there entirely. Was it the Newberry's store in the Mays shopping center (Levittown) that had a 50's style lunch counter ? they had great burgers. |

I once had a ladyfriend who bought us some, er, gifts there. Since this is a family oriented board, I will just say that they were lots of fun. I had no idea that Pier One used to sell bongs and stuff. Heavens. I thought it was a place where yuppies bought tiki torches, etc. I myself bought a beautiful lamp there, I had it for years. Sadly, it wound up being a casualty of moving. There are plenty of regular "head shops" around still. There is one in Hicksville called "Utopia." I am not concerned with places like this anymore - never was much to begin with. One of my college memories that really stuck with me were guys in my dorm who used to buy all of these incredibly elaborate devices for smoking that crap. It's enough a time eater as a vice without making it into a second career, if you ask me. When I was a student at SUNY SB, I used to shop for food at the Smithhaven Mall Pathmark. I understand that it's no longer there. That is perhaps a good thing, because it was a terrible supermarket. The produce used to look like something from under the feet of a charging herd of buffalo. There was one in Lake Success, also, Bayshore, if memory serves. My Dad worked for JC Penney for years, until they moved their corporate headquarters to Plano, TX. We always used to shop there because we got 15% off.
