I do think Rainbow called LI home for a while.

LOL, just kidding; everyone knew about the Commack Motor Inn, even if they'd never actually set foot inside it.
I never set foot in the place but know all about it. Is it still there?
I left LI for NJ, 14 years ago, major mistake.
Last year I left NJ, for Nashville, wonderful.
So, a LI girl, raised in Lawrence, owned houses in Mt Sinai and Babylon is now a Southern Bell. Taxes Low, big house for money, Elec, Insuance low.
No State income tax!

I had a friend that delivered pizzas to the Commack Motor Inn and he told us about all the crazy stuff that he'd get a glimpse of. He told us how a few times how he'd see people he knew and was surprised by how they spent their free time.

we moved to nesconset in 1940.....southern blvd.....grew up where there was our house and maybe 15 or 20 houses on the road....i remember when they put in nesconset highway and it went out to port jefferson from commack.....having to walk 1/4 mile to the bus stop no matter what the weather..because there was no door to door school bus service....i went to st.phillip and james in st.james ..seton hall in patchogue....going to little africa..short and long beach....in the spring seeing who would go in the water first no matter how cold it was......never locking your house door...it didn't matter how long you were going away...things were so much simpler then

Grew up in Northport in the 70's/80's and moved to GA 11 years ago. I still miss LI a lot, the people in particular. I just found this board and it's brought back a lot of wonderful memories.

I grew up in that area (graduated HS in the late 1960s). My mom worked in the lady's dress dept in Mays for years, in fact right up till they closed down.

I remember the Aardvark and also The Hideaway (Danny's Hideaway??) just south of Hempstead Tpke, on Rte 106. And the Tiger's Tail, a ways down the road.
