The original Roosevelt Field mall, only two lanes and they had:
Supreme Pizza, the best corner slices!
Baskin Robbins, right next door.
Bruckner's bridal shop!
79cent singles in the front of the record stores!
Gertz, Korvettes, Kresge's, Two Guys.
Did you all know Korvettes was a store started by Veterans of the Korean War?

Shopping in the neighborhood, not at the mall.
The local butcher, fish market, bakery, deli
Bowling alley french fries; never better!

Bruckners Bridal in Roosebelt Field is where I bought my briidal gown!
I did know that about EJ Korvettes.
Nunleys is where I spent many a Sunday Afternoon as a child. One ride operator knew us from coming weekly so gave us extra rides.

I remember Korvettes, my mom worked there when I was a kid. And Gertz at the Gardner Manor mall before they enclosed it.

Patchogue Now
I Grew Up In Patchogue In The 70s And 80s. I Have Fond Memories Overall. I Believe Thats When The Town Was Still At Its Best. As A Teenager The Hangouts Were 7-11 Parking Lot Next To The Elks Club, Municipal Parking Across From The Firehouse, And Of Course The End Of Roe Ave By The Old Yacht Club. That Was Before All The New Homes Were Built Down There. I Now Live In Fla, But I Do Visit Family And Freinds That Are Still There. The Village I Remember Has Seen Better Days. I Miss Swezeys Where My Mom Worked For Years. There Is A Widespread Illegal Immigrant Problem There Now. Walking Down Main Street Made Me Feel Like I Was In Another Country And It Depressed Me. I Know That The Village Cracked Down On Property Owners Who Were Running Boarding Houses In The Town Limits But That Only Pushed The Activity To The Areas Just Outside The Village. From What I Saw The Town Needs To Be Overhauled. Its Still A Very Viable Place And I Understand The Mayor Is Taking Steps Toward Improvement. I Wish Him Sucess As I Would Love To See The Town I Knew And Loved Come Back To Life.

Too bad, it was fun to watch the cars go into that dip and made that mall different.

Hey Tim L. I sure remember the town, i went to Patchogue Medford high and saxton street middle school 8th & 9th grade. My first job was at a place on Main ST called Brothers Outlet, then i worked at Modells on Sunrise and RT 112. It sure was nice back then, i did go back last year and the 4 corners area of Patchogue looks sooo different. No more Sweezy, The original one on the 4 corners was a nice place to shop. I also miss the Italian place on north ocean ave, they had good sausage. It might still be there. I graduated 1977 wow getting old!!! Is Falices still on west Main st?? I had my wedding there. Spent many thurs nights (it was hosp night) at admirals quarters on west main.

Patchogue
Hi Chevy Girl. I Also Went To Saxton And Pat Med High On Buffalo Ave, A Bit After You Did. I Graduated In 88. I Live In Fla Now But I Visit Family And Friends Almost Yearly. My Mother Worked At The Original Swezeys For Several Years And I Was Sorry To See It Go. It Was A Big Part Of The Towns History. Like I Previously Mentioned The Village Isnt Quite What It Once Was, I Was There In June And Its Completely Overrun With What I 've Been Told Are Illegal Immigrants. My Friend Told Me They Dropped Hid Kids Gifted Classes To Make Room For More Spanish Classes For The Kids Who Dont Speak English. Thats Crazy To Me, Especially If The Parents Are Illegals. I Didnt Live In The Village Limits, I Lived More Towards North Patch. Off Of Barton Ave Between 112 And Hospital Rd, Where Did You Live?

touch base
Hi:
Great thread!! I grew up around Massapequa Park and went to Farmingdale,1977. Joined the service, moved to the mid west and lost touch with my old friends, Several years ago we lost one of our good friends way too early. We started touching base with each other and set up a get together. Best thing as a group we ever did, we now do it at least 2 times a year and track down more and more old friends.
If you miss the friends you grew up with, try reaching out, you might be surprised at how many people feel the same. If you live out of state go back grab a slice, calzone, veal cultlet parm or a double/double at All American and have a drink at the local LIRR bar, it is most likely still there, ours is Gannons in Mass Park.
