Ed's Aquariums first store was in Lynbrook on Sunrise Hyway. Does anyone else remember? It was near the Howard Johnson's that is now a group of stores. Down from the Websons on the border of Lynbrook and Valley Stream. |

I remember it well. As a kid, my father would take me to Ed's. As a teenager, we would try to "break the bank" at Howard Johnson's all you could eat chicken night on Wednesdays.

E was for Eugene - J was for Jim and Korvette was supposed to be spelled with a C (like the car) but a Corvette was a Canadian naval vessal at the time so they could not use it with that spelling - they changed it to K. |

My stepmother's mom worked at A&S and oh how I remember all the boxes when we'd get presents from her, I remember TSS and man do I miss the OBI. My favorite bagels were from Higbie Bagels on Higbie Lane which is actually still there, all these years running with a line around the building on Sundays! What about the Grand Unions, I don't think there are any of those left either!!! I'm from West Islip and we had one on Union Boulevard...

Stepmother still lives in WI, on Hyman Avenue...728 Hyman Avenue off Union Blvd...I remember it well - was up there in Sayville for Thanksgiving and my sister and I came back from visiting our cousin in Brooklyn, we went over to Ocean Parkway to smell the sea air...talk about memories...

Molly Malones is still there going strong, if that's what you meant by 'if that's still there'...

I remember when Roosevelt Field was an open-air mall. And boy it was a treat to go there.

This is my 1st time posting here, but it looks like a fun forum. I grew up in Nassau County - right near the Coliseum - but now live in Bay Shore, so I can relate to BOTH areas! I remember so many of the places mentioned here... Borellis, Uncle Sams in Levittown, Levittown Roller Rink...Also, does anyone remember the bar in Massapequa where ladies used to drink free?? It was on Hicksville Rd. & we went there QUITE often when I was younger... Drinking age was 18 back then!
Now I've lived in Bay Shore for almost 20 yrs. I know that Molly Malones was mentioned & I've been there once or twice for dinner. We hope to be moving off L.I. eventually though I'm sorry to say... once my younger son graduates in about 6 yrs. It has gotten WAY too crowded & expensive & we will be part of the mass exodus... probably to Virginia for us. I will miss L.I. when the time comes but I will always have my memories! ![]() |
