i was going to say no, because I didn't remember him from The Deer Hunter, but you're right. I remember him from Hair.
John Savage (actor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Diners are more of a northeast phenomena, I read somewhere (who knows how reliable)

This thread is awesome - though I must admit, I'm only 32 so much of what is on here was before my time (or when I was really little) - I live in Oklahoma now (since Aug 2006) but we make frequent trips back - I ABSOLUTELY miss Diners and Delis - you cannot get an egg sandwich anywhere here...hard to get boars head either, and Chock Full O' Nuts coffee...plus 7-11's here do not have the huge coffee banks they have back home...damn how I miss LI - but I don't think I can ever afford to come back to live!!

Grew up in the Greenlawn-Centerport area of Huntington
Surprised to see people mention:
King George. I guess because I was little and it was a toy store, I LOVED that place. When it closed I honestly thought I'd never get a toy again.
Hamburger Choo Choo: Always wanted to go there, but people in the know steered us clear of that place -later it burned down.
The Bird Cage at Walt Whitman Mall: I only vaguely remember it, Ilways wondered if it was something I dreamed up. I thought it was only there for holidays.
The old 5 and dime in Northport: Like walking back in time, now it is a Gap (or was last I saw it)
Paris New York. We hated the music, but the beer special was excellent: we'd buy beer by the case and find a seat, and watch the faux punks dance.
Al Dowd's Steak House, Link's Log Cabin, etc
Anyone mention Zips?
A make your own Sunday place.
First LP records I ever purchased were from Amber Music. Part record shop, part head shop.
Speaking of head shops, remember Midway in Northport?
(or the "Say you love Satan" murder)

The Bird Cage. Wasn't that the restaurant inside Lord & Taylors?

Yes, it was either L&T or Saks. I remember my mom taking us their for lunch when we were shopping in Garden City.

Thanks for the memories. I grew up in Kings Park (left in 1998).
I have a stuffed LI Duck from when I was little and went to see them play at the LI Arena with my mom and dad.
I miss the Kings Park Bakery and the pizza place "up town" as we used to say.
Miss walking on the boardwalk at Sunken Meadow State Park.
We used to go to the Dock to take our boat out fishing when I was little. My brothers used to go water skiing.
My brother bought me my firt "kissy doll" from John's Bargain Store where he worked.
Miss the pizza, bagels, & bakeries!
