Why was the separate hamlet of Manhasset hills formed from the Hamlet of Herricks? Does Manhasset hills offer more services than Herricks?

Why do hamlets appear out of nowhere? People in a community can help make a village become official, like Islandia, that makes sense. Hamlets seem to pop out of nowhere from decade to decade. In the 80's there was officially no Baldwin Harbor, it was all Baldwin. Walter mentioned that it became a hamlet in the 90's. Is it to divide the wealthier sections from the woking class or poor sections of towns, such as Amityville, Bay Shore, Bellmore, Bellport, Wantagh, Farmingdale. Why keep diviiding these hamlets more and more? I can understand if these places had different zip codes or different school districts. In most cases it seems wealth is the only obvious factor.

The folks at the Nassau County Planing Commission made that decision, and you'll need to ask them why.

ZIP Code postal zones have no bearing whatsoever on the borders of hamlets.

I agree and it would be nice if there was a little rhyme and reason why hamlets appear out of nowhere from decade to decade.

No one actually thought it was part of Manhasset but they liked the sound of it. At that time I don't believe that Manhasset Hills was anything more than a figment of the developer's imagination.

Our accepted address was New Hyde Park, NY 11042 for probably a year or two, and then it was changed to New Hyde Park, NY 11040. We were told not to use Manhasset Hills because it was not an address! At about that time people started calling the area North New Hyde Park. We moved away in 1972 and the address was still New Hyde Park, NY 11040.
Thanks for the info. I just pulled out my original C of O and it says that the builder is Alexander Muss & Son Inc. and the owner entity was called Country Village Estates. In any event, its interesting because now I know how the street name Country Village Lane came about!
Nowadays, people use Manhasset Hills, NY 11040 in their address instead of NHP or North NHP, NY 11040.
You mentioned that you moved away in 1972...you would be surprised how the area has developed since then and the improvements that are made to some of the properties in Manhasset Hills.
Some may feel its overpriced compared to New Hyde Park or Garden City Park but I don't think so since the property lots and square footage of the houses are larger in Manhasset Hills...
