Kitchen Remodeling in Garden City - Need Advice
I just moved here a few months ago and am in the process of remodeling my house, in anticipation of (hopefully) selling it in a couple of years. Lots of stuff to do in the kitchen - refacing cabinets, new countertop/flooring/lighting, etc. I also need to upgrade the appliances, but am not sure whether to go with stainless steel or white. The cabinets will probably be white, with a dark countertop for contrast, if that matters.
The reason I ask is Garden City is a fairly expensive neighborhood, so I'm not sure if potential buyers would automatically be looking for stainless appliances, if it would draw more buyers, if potential buyers in this neighborhood would be turned off by white, etc. Is anyone here familiar with this area and what the general preference in appliances here is? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Far too general of a question. It's a matter of taste. White or stainless or cherry or or or will be in the eyes of the beholder.
I always found cherry cabs to look the most rich yet can be had at an affordable price.
Then there's the destressed white look....to me that looks richer then "real estate white". When I say rich I don't mean necessarily in dollars and cents but more like in quality....if there's a difference.
It's all in the yes of the beholder. Most people like granite counters but for me I prefere soapstone.
There's so many different variables.
If I were you I'd set my budget first.

stainless appliances are more elegant ,customers would go for that ,of course you will have to upgrade the whole house in order to sell

Everyone on the low end is opting for stainless appliances at the expense of quality so I guess there is a preference there to have stainless......................You can buy a non-self cleaning low end range in stainless.
I do think there is a desire for it at the high end as well, some also go for the paneled look.
I'm in wantagh, so I'm in a nice but not high end area. i did white painted cabinets(not distressed) a darker granite, Blue Saphaire, and a mix of appliances. This went against some conventianal wisdom and others opinions, but I like it. I got a stainless stove and micro. I like the look, but I got a white dishwasher and fridge. I've seen plenty of dishwashers with stainless outsides that are stained and constantly have watermarks on the outside. Fridges also can scratch and show fingerprints like crazy. I also got nice appliances, stainless inside dishwasher, french door fridge and nicer range with warming drawer and convection, so money wasn't really the driving force with my choices.
They do have a nice titanium color out now that is a bit of a compromise, wasn't readily available when I did mine.
