Moving away from Long Island? Where are you going?
If you are considering moving away from Long Island, where are you going? What reasons are you moving for and what type of new environment do you seek? Example: ( job, better quality of life, affordability, better nightlife/singles, schools, family, college, retiring etc.)

My brother recently moved from Long Island to Delaware for economic reasons. He found that he was able to sell his home here and buy a beautiful home there for half the cost, have no mortgage plus have plenty of money left over. Plus, his new real estate taxes are only about $700 per year.

We are moving to NJ in the beginning of next year. The reasons are:
* My family is all in NJ and I would like to be closer to them.
* You can get a much larger house in a safer neighborhood for your money
* Property taxes, while still high, are actually lower in parts of NJ

More than likely moving to Las Vegas, NV within the next 6mos.. it's just too much to be able to afford to live here anymore.. I have family and friends out there also, so it makes it a little easier.
- Better quality of life
- Cheaper cost of living
- no state income tax
- way lower property taxes (roughly 1-3% of FMV)
And before anyone says it, I'm not a big gambler at all, so that doesn't really bother me much.
I did also consider Atlanta, Houston, Phoenix, and LA... but Vegas just seems a right "fit" at this point in my life.

My fiance and I were going to move to Las Vegas, simply for the fact that we think it's beautiful out there. We thought it was cheaper, but once we did all the calculations, we would struggle more out there since teacher salaries are very in Las Vegas. For that reason, we're staying. We will probably retire someday in the southwest.

Charlotte, NC. We can't wait. ...........My husband is getting a job transfer. Besides economic reasons, we also want a warmer client and to be near our best friends, who are our family.

Vegas?? Try taking a lunchtime stroll between June and August than see if its the right fit. Better quality of life?If you're a rattlesnake then maybe.

Moved off LI about 10 yrs ago and went to Pa. Just moved back.
Jobs were horrible there and salaries were miniscule. No respect for employees. Place was backwards and if you go to the Poconos within commuting distance of NYC be prepared for the slums and gangs. Yes, they moved there and brought it with them. While it may be a little cheaper to live, you salary is much lower too so there is no gain. Taxes may be cheaper but the services are bad. All in all, it was a long 10 yrs and I am thrilled to be back. The grass is not always greener!

More than likely headed upstate to the Capital region.. we want to be in a central point between families and friends (Long Island and Boston) and also the affordability/quality of life factors in. Comparably our salaries upstate would be about the same, only slightly lower but we can get more for our money in terms of housing and our bills would be less.
