Moderator cut: comment One incident does not categorize an entire island of people. Since you do not live here, it is very presumptious of you to even claim to understand this area. I have travelled in the south and it it quite racist down there. I feel that you are very misinformed and you are clearly trying to start trouble in this forum.
How is LI a poor white trash area??? It is one of the wealthiest places to live in the country. Perhaps you are jealous that you can't live here.
Although your dad is entitled to his own opinion, keep in mind that he is speaking about something 50 years ago. My parents weren't even born yet. Segregation was still going on in the south then. I think his experiences are a bit outdated.
I will not waste any more time responding since you are such a close-minded individual.

No, I'm absolutely serious. Why do you think there is racism on long island? Because of one incident that was blown out of proportion? I have friends and family on the island. A former coworker of mine has a security company and put a black kid in charge of everything. You probably think there is racism because there are a few segregatged areas.

You don't live on Long Island so your opinion based on your former co-worker putting a "black kid" in charge means squat.
One incident?? Shows what you know... There are "incidents" everyday. They just don't all make the news.
Wow.... he put a "black kid" in charge..... that speaks for all of LI.
No, not because of the "segregated" areas.... I lived in NYC... moved out here 11 years ago.... Believe me the things I've seen and heard out here are just un-freaking-believable when it comes to racism. I would give just about anything to be able to move back to NYC.
Here's an example..... my daughter and I were at an event in a park in Manhattan. There were people there from EVERY walk of life, every ethnicity, every religion..... Everyone was getting along great, having a wonderful time, having fun together.... I can guarantee you if this event happend on LI, there would have been fights, attacks, nasty comments, etc.....

Ok, you're comparing the island to manhattan where there are a higher percentage of blacks and spanish people. People in long island are no more racist than people in the 5 boroughs.Btw, I was just giving you one example of a guy I know. Don't make an issue where there is not one. on't automatically assume an area is racist because it's predominantly white. Most people live where they want to live. Are the residents of bed stuy racist?

where were you when you heard these racist comments on LI????
Each LI town is unique and different. If I heard a racist comment in Harlem, I would not categorize the entire city or Manhattan as racist. You need to stop being so narrow minded and stop stereotyping people. Moderator cut: comment

Folks.. I realize this is a topic that evokes emotions however the ToS still applies.
Be civil, no personal attacks, flaming, or insults. We may attack ideas (politely) but we do not attack the speaker of the idea. Be careful with your words, there is a point where being direct crosses a line into blunt, in-your-face hostility. Please, report bad posts instead of engaging in flame wars on the boards. Insulting another member or a moderator will not be tolerated anywhere on this website. This includes Direct Messages and Reputation Comments.
If you disagree with something, say so, but explain WHY.
Stay on topic. Attempts to hi-jack threads by switching topics or going off topic will be deleted and infractions issued. This is not a chat room - when people hi-jack threads by posting messages that are of interest to only few people, the threads often stop being useful discussions of initial topics.
Hate speech, racism or bashing of ANY sort will NOT be tolerated. Rude posts will be removed and infractions issued. Do not quote or talk to trolls or your posts will also be deleted. Use the report feature instead.

OMG! I so much agree with you on that issue. I"ve always thought that when living in Oakland county, Pontiac MI in the 60s; flyers would be on the windows of cars, but NONE were passed out in the Projects, or poor neighborhoods. Plenty of Militia-KKK grps. in Holly, MI. but they keep denying it. After all the OKla. bomb guy lived/worked right near there in Dexter/Deckerville, or was it Hooterville and Pixly, MI ? hahahaaaa

Hey where's Greenspan when you need him? Long Island is a part of NY. Also I think the reason for the choice of area to distribute is the fact that I don' think there'd be many takers in the projects. Like asking for donations for the Yankees in Fenway.

I saw something on TV about the Klan and actually places like Smithtown and Freeport, LI, were Klan strongholds in the 1920's.
At one time the Klan was very popular all over America, not only in "Red States" until a Grand Dragon from Indiana was convicted of the rape/murder of a young woman and then most people dissociated themselves with it and they lost a tremendous amount of membership.

The KKK was huge on LI up until the 1930s, and it was right out in the open. I've seen pictures of a Klan rally on Merrick Road in Wantagh (where Cedar Creek Park is now) that drew close to a thousand people. There weren't even a thousand people living in Wantagh at that time!

There are constant issues between kids of different races at LI high schools but they go both way, and they don't make the news because they're not newsworthy whatsoever. When was the last time you heard about a fresh batch of MS-13 recruits raping and murdering Johnny Lacrosse, a freshman at Jericho High School? It's never happened. The first scenario is more common, and it doesn't make the news because the media knows people aren't that shocked by illegal immigrants killing each other. That doesn't sell papers!
A group of high school students stabbing anyone (white or not) to death would be front page news pretty much anywhere in the country.
