Default Apartments in North Bellmore

I have a question regarding a one family house being rented out by its owner in North Bellmore . Would appreciate some feedback on whats legal and whats not .

If the family renting the apartment has many children of school age , Who is paying the school taxes for this property ? The absentee landlord does not have kids or does not have kids of school age . So I'm sure that He is receiving a STAR rebate due to not using the schools .

Is there anything that can be done ?

Are absentee landlords even allowed in North Bellmore ?

Thanks for the feedback .

The landlord can rent the property to a single family if he/she so chooses. The only thing that would make it illegal is if there were 2 families renting there and the house did not have the proper permits. As for the STAR exemption, you have to LIVE in the house to claim exemption and having school age children has no baring on being able to claim it.

Any particular reason you are opposed to a family renting a house?

As far as the taxes, the owner is still required to pay taxes on his property whether he lives in it or someone else does. The rent charged will reflect the taxes the landlord has to pay.

Thanks for the replies guys . I guess when I saw the family who will be renting and the amount of children they were going to be adding to the schools . It's a small block of one family homes and this house is the only rental .

With the property taxes that I am paying here , I was concerned that this family renting the apartment ( house ) was getting a free ride on their share of the schools and services .

I understand that the rent charged would reflect the owners taxes and such ...

What classifies a family living there ? What if I start seeing more than 2 adults ? I am pretty sure that the house in question is broken up into 2 apartments . But as of now I believe the upstairs apartment is vacant . Who knows how long that will last or if the newcomers are taking the whole house .

I'm all for someone owning houses and renting them out as an investment property , but I moved here from Queens where I watched great n'hoods turn to crap very quickly due to stuff like this .

Thanks
