Road test for driver's license on Long Island
I need to take a road test to get a NYS drivers license & have a few questions:
1. Which LI location is best to take the test at? Nassau or Suffolk are both equally convenient for me...I'll drive to whichever location will be the easiest.
2. Any tips for passing the parallel parking portion of the test? This is the part I'm most nervous about.
3. Any other tricks/ tips I should know about? I drove for years in another state, but stupidly let my license expire years ago after moving to Manhattan. Anything you can tell me about the NY road test would be very helpful!!

I am pretty sure that you do not have a choice and that you need to take the road test wherever you live.

The test can be taken anywhere in NY state...doesn't have to be anywhere near where you live.

I took it at Hicksville. Just hope you luck out and get the nice blonde lady. Practice parallel parking 100 times, literally, if you're that worried about it. Just go slow and you'll be fine.

Location doesn't matter... the road test is the road test. If you know how to drive, you shouldn't have a problem passing the test.
All I know about the test is that they're going to make sure you use your mirrors and directional signals.... that you look before changing lanes.... that you make safe turns.... that you stop properly at a stop sign.... that you can do a 3-point...... that you can park... that you can parallel park..... basically, that you can operate a motor vehicle.

Some tips from my 2 oldest kids. As long as you don't go over the curb parallel parking, it's ok. You CAN go forwards & backwards a few times to even the car out.
They took it at a location where they had to make a left hand turn into traffic. So the son lost points because he stopped at the stop sign, then inched up to see better, then made the left. The tester wanted a second complete stop.
The girl lost points at a 4 way stop when she waited to make sure the oncoming car would actually stop since it seemed to be going a little fast. The instructer felt she waited too long at the stop sign.
Both passed the first time. Just do the test real slow. We are so not used to keeping our cars under a 30 mph speed limit here on Long Island!
You set up the appointment for the drivers test on line & it lets you pick the location.
Good luck!
