Lakeview Avenue actually runs between Lynbrook and Baldwin, through Lakeview and Rockville Centre. I just looked up Waterview Drive, that is entirely in Lakeview (Rockville Centre mailing address).

I feel that you have many better options close to those areas. Others will tell you.

valley stream central high school district made top 5 most violent school districts in Nassau county a few years back in the Newsday hempstead number one uniondale number 2 roosevelt number 3 and some how lawrence number 4 and valley stream number 5 then freeport elmont and westbury i think......hempstead topped it off tho by a long shot....id stay out of district 30 in valley stream....i personally wouldnt move 2 either town even if the academic achievements of valley stream aren't too bad its just that newsday article that would deter me from moving to valley stream....i just dnt want to see people telling you valley stream is this wonderful place and your completely unhappy after moving there when u find out its not as much as a peacefully mix neighborhood as people say....statistics are only half that of reality due to political bs from the nassau county police and top officials who want there neighborhood to look good so they look good....by the way i have lived in valley stream all my life up to a couple months ago so i know from what from experience of living here and knowing people who others may not......i would suggest lynbrook and franklyn square as alternatives....

For decades Malverne has had a solid middle class black presence. As for it being mostly Italian, I don't think so and cannot say with certainty the exact makeup of what types of whites are there. As for the schools, part of Malverne goes to Valley Stream District #13 instead of Malverne District #12, depending on where a home is located.
Not sure what your sources are. Malverne is 85% white according to the 2000 census.

Thank you Sean Sean Sean
Thank you for your posts challenging I_Love_LI_but regarding Lakeview and the Malverne School District. It seems I am always defending and debating posts about both, but I live here in Malverne and should be considered biased. You do not I believe, so thank you again for helping to factually clear up some of the misperceptions about my community.

This is a post by your "hero" sean sean sean sean where he crunches numbers and ranks Long Island school districts:
http://www.city-data.com/forum/1805859-post33.html
Note Malverne is ranked 81 out of 112 Long Island school districts on this list and it has a high proportion of poverty compared to the rest of Long Island with 22% free lunches given. So what has he "cleared up" for you? I don't see one bit of factual evidence that proves anything other than the fact is Malverne is an undesirable school district and not worth the high tax money the residents pay to support it. End of story.
Tell me again where my "misperceptions" are? It is especially interesting since you have "played along" with me throughout this old thread, yet now pipe up with an attack much later.
I am very sorry the school district you live in is LESS THAN DESIRABLE, but attacking me personally will not help improve it to the point that most people in Malverne actually USE SD 12 instead of send their kids to private schools. Attack your school board and administration instead and maybe your district will improve and its reputation will improve along with it.
Have a nice day!

Your facts have often been wrong and even the facts you get right don't add up to your conclusions. You started out saying Malverne was designated by Newsday as a district most in need of improvement and later retracted that as incorrect. Then you said Lakeview was not middle class which others posters proved was also incorrect by posting average income figures. As a resident of Malverne who has many friends in Lakeview and who has visited many homes in Lakeview, I can assure you it is very much a middle class neighborhood. Yes, there are areas of Lakeview where the less affluent reside. But that's true of most neighborhoods and for the most part, Lakeview has well maintained houses on nice lots and pretty streets. So right there are two misperceptions about Malverne and Lakeview that you have perpetuated in this thread.
Now you say the Malverne SD is undesireable because it ranks 81st out of 112 school districts (a ranking I assume is based on test scores.) Of course, Long Island is generally known for having the best schools in the country. So is a ranking of 81 really so terrible? Malverne is still doing better on test scores than 31 other school districts on Long Island. And doing it DESPITE a higher proportion of students below the poverty line. Of course, you also infer that Malverne SD is inferior because 22% of its students qualify for free lunches. Since when does poor = undesirable anyway?
I also take issue with your repeated assertions that Malverne families do not send their kids to the public schools. It is true that many families send their children to the excellent Catholic schools in Malverne and the surrounding neighborhoods. But just as many send their kids to the public schools and are quite happy to be there. And over the past ten years more and more families are choosing the public schools over the private schools as the district continues its efforts to improve the available academic programs and testing performance.
I suspect your view of the Malverne SD is based upon a lot of outdated information that no longer accurately reflects the reality of the district today. I researched my options carefully before deciding where to send my children to school and I can well afford to pay private school tuition. But I chose the public schools in Malverne based upon the quality of the adminstration and teaching staff and after six years I have never had any reason to regret the choice I made. My children are doing well and they have made wonderful friends. I have made wonderful friends too - friends from all of the neighborhoods that go to Malverne public schools.

81 out of 112 isn't bad, considering that beneath Malverne are school districts that many people will reccommend here (Sachem, Rocky Point, for instance)

My thoughts exactly. You have to really get to the bottom of the barrel to find a truly "bad" district on LI.
