Well, "they" may be partly correct: some of the area just south of the LIE is in the Hamlet of Hauppauge; however, the area around Feller Drive is definitely not in the Hamlet of Hauppauge, Feller Drive is in the Hamlet of Central Islip.

So is South Valley Stream and Gibson the same thing? People act like South Valley Stream and North Valley Stream are 2 separate towns and Gibson is it's own neighborhood but it doesn't seem to have its own zip code.

There really is no neighborhood called South Valley Stream. Perhaps you are thinking of the area in the 11580 zip code as opposed to North Valley Stream which is 11581 zip code. Perhaps some people called the area south of Sunrise Highway as South Valley Stream? North Valley Stream really is a separate entity with some of the residents attending Elmont schools.
