I've heard people use Route 108 and Woodbury Road as a shortcut to the LIE going west instead of Route 110. I have no experience with this myself, but does that save time?

Shoreham/Wading River(Brookhaven) ties right into Wm Floyd and are both very nice.

If you're going West to, Woodbury Rd is an excellent alternative; if you're going East, Park Ave is the way to go. (also back road options)
Another way going West is NY Ave to Depot to Melville Rd, etc... (great back roads, use them myself all the time)
There are a few other alternatives, if you're interested

I found that you go from the Expressway to Huntington without much traffic by taking Park Avenue rather than 110.

Still no picnic and its forcing you East.
North Shore is generally less accessible by road and rail.
I believe the moneyed interest years past did all they could to reroute the NSP and squash mass transit initiatives.

Not sure what the appeal is with Glen Cove and Huntington on these boards. They both have really nasty areas, and they should in no way be included on lists with some of those North Shore towns. Plus, they are so damn inconvenient to get to.
I personally love the middle of the island...as long as it's a good town (ie. Stewart Manor, GC, East Williston, Old Westbury, Dix Hills, etc.) Why? Because you easily get to the highways to go anywhere, you've go the harbor towns in the North and the beachess in the South that are easily accessible. The best of both worlds.

Right, but if you are heading west that takes you way out of the way.
