I really like Stony Brook, but make sure your commute is doable from there. The further east you go in Suffolk, the more problematic this becomes.

satr is on a distinguished road
try valley stream...it is a very diverse village, but everyone is accepted..excellent schools, lots of parks, etc..a great "homey" town. Also the commute to the city isn't bad...excellent commuting village

I agree, VS schools are excellent when compared to the city schools. Also they are not bad compared to other nassau schools either.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Herricks SD in New Hyde Park. It's considered an excellent school district....much better than Valley Stream, and has had a well-established Asian population for years! Syosset has a large Asian population as well and is also one of the top Nassau, if not Long Island, school districts.

Herricks was mentioned earlier I do agree Herricks has an excellent school district, and it does have the highest Asian % on LI IIRC.
