That was a rude comment...

What kind of free time do the cops have that they don't deserve?
Working class throwing working class beneath busses really irks me.
I wonder if the police have too much time off when they are running through a neighborhood trying to catch some punk with a gun. I know I wouldn't do it. I'd much rather leave it to the cops.
Cops are to be criticized when they screw up. I complain plenty. Still, blanket comments like that are going to bring insults like flied to poop. Have some decency.

Working class throwing working class underneath the bus?
Funny, if you listen to LI cops on this and other forums, they have the mentality more of corporate executives...the only taxes they support are the ones that pay them..the ones that pay for education, roads, social programs, all take away their hard earned (straight from the taxpayer) pay.
It's not surprising, because many of them are getting PAID as much as executives, hence their inflated egos and lack of humility and self awareness. I can pull up posts by the usual "cops can do no wrong" suspects, and you will find them saying teachers pay should be cut, welfare programs should be cut, income taxes should be lowered, all while they are nursing from the same taxpayer teat they claim to be defending...which pays them!!! It's a bizarre cycle of irony.
Not all cops, of course, but far too many.
As for the original poster, clear your sidewalk and zip it.

Name a cop who gets paid like a CEO. Then, tell me how many cops are paid this way. You don't mean beat cops. You mean upper management. Their ranks are very thin. This small crowd of people influences taxes? Their overwhelming voting power? Wow. I wasn't aware.
How much is the average cop paid?
Why wouldn't we want top cops to be paid like CEOs or better? If we accept that pay is linked to performance, then why do you want them to be paid less?

You tell someone to "zip it?" What? Are you confusing this person for some child you verbally abuse? The verbal aggression is unnecessary, and it isn't going to cause people to listen to you. It makes you seem like your IQ may be lower than average - and that isn't fair to someone who is obviously as intelligent as you are.

2-3 days is WAY TOO MUCH TIME to wait to clear public sidewalks. If you own a home, it is your responsibility to clear them, particularly ones that are icy and extra dangerous, in a timely manner. If you don't want to clear them, then don't buy your own detached home, buy a co-op and have your super do it. If you are on top of the snow and ice right away, it is easier to clear. If you wait and it melts and refreezes, it gets progressively harder. Use the product Johninwestbury recommended, "Driveway Heat" to make things easier on yourself. If you personally don't have time to clear your sidewalks, then hire someone to do so or make a deal with a neighbor, i.e., they clear the sidewalks this time it snows, you clear them next time.
I bet you always have time to shovel out your DRIVEWAY and the walkways in your yard to your home, don't you? The public sidewalks should be just as important as your driveway.

Try a neighbor, a twelve pack of bud for payment can go a long way.

The average SCPD cop makes over 100K per year. Nassau isn't far off. With the amount of time off they have, 20 yr retirement, 6 wks vacation, and other perks, their compensation EASILY matches up to an executive on LI.
An EVP of sales working for a small to medium company on Long Island makes around 200-250K a year in salary and bonuses. If you factor in a cops pension, medical, and vacation, how many hours they actually work, and that they can retire after 20 years, their total compensation package approaches that EASILY.
And that doesn't even bring into question the qualifications for the position. Cops should be well paid for their jobs. Maxing out at 75K with the same retirement, vaca, etc would still fill an arena with perspective applicants. Why? Because very few places on earth can you get a compensation package like that with a High School diploma. Guys I know who became cops were store security, deli workers, etc, before becoming cops. It's a question of being able to fill those positions. The minute an NCPD or SCPD cop retires, there are THOUSANDS of working class guys and girls who are falling all over themselves to get that position.
They should be justly compensated. They should not be made wealthy while many people on LI struggle to survive. It is not the taxpayers job to put former bagel store employees in Corvettes and Mercedes.
As for CEO's, I'm disgusted by the fact that people are walking away with millions from companies they destroyed, and they should be convicted of fraud.
Any other questions?

You didn't do what I asked. Name a cop who gets paid like a CEO. You just told me that cops, on average, make over $100,000 per year. Their starting salaries are $57,000. Hmmm.
I got from you some speculation about what an executive makes in a small to medium company on LI. The difference is yawning. Are you telling me that CEOs don't get retirement packages or severance? That cop pensions are better than, say, stock options? Hmmm.
The average cop is a bagel peddler? I didn't know that either. I know some pretty intelligent cops. Hmmm. It's too bad that all your cops are so dumb, and can only make bagels. My cops are pretty bright, and compassionate.
I don't think you've made a convincing case at all.

Welcome to GC
Hey - welcome to GC! We closed there in October but won't move in until summer (hopefully.) I had trouble with all the ice there too. Wish I'd thought about clearing 300' of sidewalk BEFORE we bought! I heard that Mineola Landscaping does a good job clearing snow and ice and their prices are reasonable. Best wishes, Congratulations!
