OC is ruinously expensive, at least as bad if not worse than LI. And don't get too excited about the Prop 13 tax cap. Developments built since then are allowed to assess an additional tax (called the Mello-Roos tax) to pay for infrastructure which can DOUBLE your property taxes. And then the schools hit the parents up for money. Prop 13 killed CA schools.

Inland, the air quality is terrible, and I don't think the quality of life in SoCal is all that great. A lot of OC is little ticky-box developments, just newer versions of LI. (sometimes not newer). It's just suburban sprawl with palm trees.

Reason enough not to go to OC. If you think you feel like you're south of the border on LI, the OC is way, way worse.

F no.
OC is a distant second at best.

Youll never have, Manhattan, the Hamptons or Fire Island etc etc etc.

You can keep your 76 degrees and your breast implants and your smog and your burritos and your LaLa traffic.

Sorry but OC cant hold a candle to LI dollar for dollar.
Having lived in both ....youll realize it in time.

Welcome to NY kid.

Imagine that...people talking about Long Island like its the shangri-las. The North Shore on the island is charming...but Long Island Sound is a giant toilet bowl. Orange County has better weather, and I like visiting family out there...but it has about as much soul as Phoenix. Both are suburban..but I'm telling you...the 1950's Long Island my Dad grew up is long gone...its been in decline for a long time (think a lot of the San Fernando Valley). Taxes are insane, and its just a stress pit to live there. The Hamptons are such an isolated area far removed from reality...only livable by a small fortunate group. Orange County's prices are insane...but it hasnt shown the age and wear yet. Its congested to be sure...but it doesnt seem as crazy congested as Long Island does now. The beaches on the South Shore of Long ISland are hard to beat though.
