So are you nostalgic for a time in which you hadn't even been born yet? That is some pretty heavy existentialism.....

there is NO lifestyle for most on long island. its an overcrowded, uptight, overpriced absurd place to live with horrible weather. OC is all about lifestyle, fun in sun, smart open minded people making money and enjoying any activity imagineable all year....LI is a nightmare, i grew up there and left like most other young people i knew.

Aaaaamen to that
LI always has given me the creeps being stuck on an Island like that. Good ole mainland USA is much better and not as crowded.

Or we can go to the OC which is soon to be an Island as well.
Good news is we can build a floatilla of Breast Implants and float back to Cali for fruits and nuts.

Being sheltered on LI and never having lived anywhere else (except Queens), I never really understood how it compares to other nice areas around the country... this thread opened my eyes... I held the OC to a high level for sure because of tv (not necessarily MTV, but in general). Good to hear LI compares pretty well.
I do have one question though, if LI is so on par, why is it that there are no shows done based on people/locale here? Growing up Gotti doesn't count - I never watched it but it seemed more like something out of NJ, and it probably focused on the Gotti name rather than our area. Maybe I've just missed the shows... maybe NYC is stealing everything...

Have you ever visited anyplace else far from New York. Further than PA, CT,NJ, or anyplace in the North East?

DC, Orlando, SD/LA/SF, Maui, Boston, Chicago for vacations... never lived anywhere other than here long enough which I think is necessary to get a good feel.

That tends to be very common for people living on Long Island. It seems like most people have only lived in Queens, Brooklyn than they moved out to Long Island and stayed put. Only the people who go away for college seem to live off the island. It seems like mostly everyone stays for good.
I'm going Upstate for college, but I am definetly coming right back to Long Island or NYC afterwards.
