Default Why is the Medford RR Station such a joke?

Why is the Medford RR Station such a joke?

Its on Rt 112 in the heart of LI and it has one morning train to Penn.

(and only an hour and 40 minutes to cover 55 miles too.)

http://mta.info/lirr/html/ttn/medford.htm

Shouldnt they be electrifed to 112 on the Main line by now?
Has anyone else noticed the eastward poulation shift over the past 30 effing years?

WTF is wrong with the MTA?

If they were a corporation and they failed to adapt to a changing market theyd be out of business and still we subsidize this horses4!t.

They suck.
I want a refund.

Imagine if Medford RR had more trains? Think of the traffic on 112 from more cars going to the parking lot.

Yeah, that's why this will never happen.

That very argument is preciesely why you need improved rail service there. (Port Jeff and Patchougue have frequent but SLOW service at 112).

Imagine it was at the Old Multiplex and off the service road of the LIE.

Now Imagine if all the cars that were coming from Eastern Brookhaven(and beyond) to Ronkonkoma started to exit the Expressway at 64/65 rather than 60.

to play devils advocate, I think the opponents would say that it would simply create more building further out on the island, and put even more people on the roads. I had this discussion with an environmental consultant a few years ago about the 347 fiasco and turning it into a limited access highway. "Wouldn't it cut back on emissions and pollution and gridlock?"

The answer:

We don't want to cut back on those things. If we did, it would just encourage more sprawl further out east.

I don't know if I can argue with that...but hasn't the damage already been done? I guess they think that you'd have people commuting from Mattituck to Manhattan every day if you extended the Northern State? Same thing with the south shore.

Understood.

Its the old "If you build it they will come" BS.

Well we havent built it and they are here now WTF are we gonna do about it?

Isnt it intersting how that the 347 fiasco lies mostly in...

Wait till you see the futureslum that Brookhaven/MTA have in mind for Ronkonkoma rather than spreading ridership across the Main Lines.

Town of Islip/Ronkonkoma Civic should be screaming bloody murder.

I agree. Having to deal with 347 or 83 every day hasn't stopped people from buying the monstrosities in Mt. Sinai and commuting at least an hour to any significant commercial area. If you want to stop sprawl, stop sprawl through zoning and town ordinances. Doing it by frustrating people with crappy infrastructure doesn't make sense to me.

I blame Brian Foley for not delivering on his promise of reform and for selling out to the developers.

Meet the new boss....same as the old boss.

Economic Development should be looking to improve infrastucture along the 112 corridor and the Empire Zone in Yaphank so we can increase rateables to support our chrushing tax burden.

Lets get real, this hasnt been "The Country" for generations...are we fighting to protect the "rustic heritage" of Medford?
Anyone been to 112 lately? Sorry to say....its gone.

Electrify to 112 on the main line, sync it up with hub and spoke bus service and put the station on the service road of the LIE(the line is already there).

WE NEED TO GET PEOPLE OUT OF THEIR CARS.
