Anyone else think a Walmart would be nice in the Islip area?
I live in Bay Shore and I feel like the closest Walmart stores are kinda far! I do find Walmart to be cheaper than most places for stuff like pet supplies, hair products, etc.
Anyone else think a Walmart would do well in the Islip/Bay Shore/East Islip area? Unless there's one hiding closer than Commack or Farmingdale (that one is closer to where I work) that I don't know about!!

If you live in Islip, probably your closest one is Islandia (which is really Central Islip). I have to admit that I do shop at the Commack store. Their cat food prices are about 30% lower than the supermarkets ; it's in a shopping center with Costco , Home Place and Target so I like going there so I can go to all of those stores at once .

You probably won't get a Wal-Mart any time soon, but for the people in the eastern part of Islip Town (like Bohemia, Sayville and Holbrook), a developer is planning to build a complex called Islip Pines at the east corner of Vets and Sunrise with Kohl's, Target and a movie theater.
Wal-Mart is hellbent on trying to open a location out in East Patchogue, but their planned location (NE corner of Hospital Road and Sunrise) is drawing ire from a lot of people. The Hospital Road bridge is a crappy narrow two-lane bridge leading to the hospital and you want to put a Walmart near there? As long as that bridge is that narrow, that will never happen.

Since Bay Shore is in the process of gentrifying itself nicely, I doubt that a Wal-Mart would have a snowballs chance in youknowwhere of going in there anytime soon. Also, there is already a Target/Greatland on Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore, so putting a Wal-Mart anywhere close to that would be redundant.

Isn't that land you speak of in Islip Pines part of the "Holbrook Greenleaf"? Why cant they use the site of the closed UA theater a mile down the road?

Yeah, I've gone to that Target on Sunrise many times. I actually prefer Target over Walmart where image, cleanliness, and quality of the store as a whole are concerned. (Yeahhh, Crookhaven, you're right... Walmart is a rotten company). BUT like nancy thereader said, cat food/pet supplies are much cheaper there!
As far as the Target being so close... I've lived in places where there are both stores right down the street, practically across the street from each other. Aw well. Doesn't really matter. I can drive an extra couple miles if I really wanna save a few bucks. At least gas is cheap now, right? LOL.
Ahhh! I didn't realize Islandia was really Central Islip! Thanks! (I'm still learning!)

Yeah stay away from the Islandia Walmart, bad, bad, bad!
I have heard they have higher prices too, prob to cover the losses from the shoplifting.
I go to the East Meadow Walmart which is pretty nice. The Westbury one...not so nice.

I'm unaware of what the Holbrook Greenleaf is, but they can't use the site of the closed UA because another developer bought the land to build...
...wait for it...
...condos. Color me shocked
