It's quite obvious that the congestion is getting worse, even though we're in a recession. Something needs to be done.
The roads around Roosevelt Field were gridlocked today, no NCPD directing traffic. The buses were caught in the mess and being delayed. Not only is this bad for the environment and our quality of life, it is also bad in emergencies because emg vehicles have trouble getting through.
There needs to be a plan to solve congestion here on Long Island. Folks say they dont want more taxes, but they seem to have no problem spending money burning gas in traffic jams.
In NYC, people choose to take mass transit because it's cheaper, quicker, and more convienent than driving. The same needs to be done here on Long Island. There needs to be increases, not decreases in buses. Buses should travel in dedicated bus only lanes, making the bus speed ahead of cars stuck in traffic. And a transit style rail system, perhaps a subway or light rail, needs to be built. For those naysayers...all I have to say is watch this video and tell me you're OK with Long Island's future looking like this.

YouTube - Holiday traffic gets worse every year, we need much more mass transit, not less!

Default crowded below, noisy overhead

What about the fricking airplanes overhead on the Belmont visual inbound for runway 22 left at JFK, it was enough to drive you up the wall.

I can't wait til you move too...

But I do agree with your first post, this kind of traffic is only going to get worse. The center of Nassau especially needs some kind of relief, going and coming. I'd be thrilled if we had subways, is that possible though? I thought there was some kind of geologic barrier that prevented it... never mind the less manageable NIMBY barrier.

I agree about the recession thing too. WTF? Maybe all those people were there to return gifts they received so they could pay their mortgage, not to shop. That's the only thing that makes sense to me!

Default go to the mall on 26th of Dec, are you nuts?

The shoppers that stepped into this all too obvious trap were all pretty stupid as well. It is common knowledge that the wall the day after x-mas is a known cluster foxtrot. Knowingly planning a trip to the mall the day after x-mas is confirmation that you are not a smooth operator. Hopefully the death of the consumer will be swift and these clusters of shoppers will be vanquished at area malls.

There cannot be subways on Long Island... the grounds aren't deep enough (or stable enough?) to maintain a subway system.

LI definitely needs a mass transit system. They could add more buses, be more RELIABLE (unlike now), and possibly build an elevated train system like parts of the NYC subway. (although I can imagine the NIMBYs out in droves protesting it)

Like others have mentioned on a somewhat similar thread about wishes for a high speed train to Manhattan, possible subway and the like...the reality is that Nassau Co (Central to west mostly) is more urban with a suburban veneer. More buses running longer hours would be a good start. I know the possible outcry (NIMBY-ish? 'This is NOT one of the boroughs!') but it's high time reality set in.

Even if there were more buses on LI, no person who is mentally stable will ever ride them. They are a Moderator cut: vulgar language
