Gay Life on the East End?
Just moved from Miami to Riverhead, New York, next to the Tanger outlets. I know literally no one and this seems kind of hick-like. I moved here due to personal-family issues and am looking for all info involvinng the gay lesbian and specifically transgender community.
im just really bored and have no friends ive been trying to find a job but apparently NO ONE is hiring. I guess ill just wait till next semester until I can start college. Idk. Any advice would help

This page was linked off the Cherry Grove article on Wikipedia, seems to have a lot of good local links (Long Island specific stuff is towards the bottom).
Welcome to LI, good luck job hunting - but it really is extremely rough going right now. I'm sure Riverhead must be a gigantic change from Miami!

The winter is not a great social time on the east end, but in the spring & summer the Hamptons & Fire Island are awesome for the gay community.
In newsday there is a social/single section-I think its on Thursday. I've seen gay nightlife & group activities listed. Also try craigslist or meetup.com
There are always plenty of gay men working & shopping at Tanger, try striking up conversation to see if they are local residents. My neighbors are a gay couple & know they have a very active social life, I live 7 minutes from Tanger.
Good luck & welcome to LI!

I live in Riverhead and I used to live in Jamesport/Aquebogue. I read once in a local paper that Jamesport was a gay/lesbian friendly town. I lived next door to lesbians there and another set of lesbians lived the house across the street. My kids who go to Riverhead HS, say there are lots of gays and lesbians in the school. My daughters who work at Tanger, have worked with many gay and lesbians. So they are around! I don't know how to actually meet them, but there are plenty here! Good luck!

There's an Alternative Lifestyle club in Sayville called The Bunkhouse! Here's their MySpace page. You'll meet a ton of people there!
And then there's always hopping on the LIRR and going into Manhattan sometimes! But you'll find lots of stuff to do here, too.
Welcome to Long Island!
