My friend in Virginia bought a house with a "library" room.

I think he owns maybe 4 books.

I'd go maximum 2,000 sq ft. Anything more than that is overkill.

I believe that they will continue building large homes on Long Island. Since the land is so expensive, building a large house is the best way to maximize the builder's profit.

I agree but they won't be as big as they have been building. Tom...how bad did that builder get hurt that built the development across from the Smithaven mall? I have heard nightmare stories.

Tell us more? They were listing in the 800K's or something and got 600k?

I disagree...I think you will start seeing high end luxury smaller stock like they are doing in Seattle and SF. We're less than 10 years from the build out.

The McMansion has become the Hummer of the CulDeSac.
A relic, even an environmental embarrassment for some.

We have quite a few downsizers coming into Rocky Point and dumping $$ into some of the smaller stock.I guess in a downturn less is more.

Ive heard similar stories in Northport ,Port Jeff, Stony Brook, Wading River etc.
From what I can gather, smaller stock in good neighborhoods are definitely in demand.

The Roslyn Heights area has been completely overtaken by the most hideous McMansions that shoddy Home Depot-esque catalogs could produce. No taste, no finesse, just big hulking masses of tackiness.

nuts to that. give me as much space as the building code allows. I'd gladly trade homes with anyone who is "embarrased" by their "mansion".

Old Roslyn Heights was cool as hell too.

I think the high energy costs of the past few years got some folks thinking what if we hit $5..$10 a gal for Oil?
